I recently got new glasses with varifocal lenses, these are my second pair of varifocals in two years, well my vision is terrible with my new lenses and the optician tells me that it can take up to a week or two to get accustomed to new lenses, he is talking rubbish isn't he?

Can be true if you've had a big change in prescription or change in lens design. However tends to be used to make the problem go away temporarily. I would go back and get them to start looking into why they feel so bad. Good luck.

Went back to the opticians earlier today, and after some investigating by her she informed me that the left lens was reading 0.00 when it should have read -6.50, explain why i could not see.

If it's 0.00 not -6.50 that's shocking. Spex should be checked before being given out and then again on collection if you were having problems. Glad you got it sorted though.
