Merida has nothing to do with Giant...it's Specialized they have a stake in and make frames for, they also do Carrera, the Vitus and pinnacle, Boardman, Voodoo, they used to do some Claude butler......basically lots!

Giant have their own factory but they also make frames for other brands including Trek.
I really wanted a Banshee Spitfire until a mate got one. Now I would rather a Argos special than a Banshee.

Haha, you missed the fact that on the previous page we are talking about a Carrera Banshee....

Ellsworth or Turner. There must be one somewhere which hasn't cracked.

Hmm yes, good guesses, the Turner is close on weight, the Ellesworth is a bit heavier though......but yes funding an untracked turner isn't easy!

Anthem doesn't really fit the exotic part of the initial description. Just as good as any boutique frame but far from it.

Mach 4 is way off my budget though I'd love one, as per my usual style this is a tight budget build, but I'm very happy with what I've got......

'Boutique' brand (very much so), FS frame, old enough to be able for me to get at my usual budget conscious level, lightweight at about 2.4kg (quoted with shock, although I will be using a much lighter one as the original was one of Foxes heaviest air shocks) and originally retailed for a somewhat bizarre circa £1k (frame only), marketed as the brands 'all mountain' offering although at 4 or 5" travel that's a bit optimistic.

Just about to start the build thread, so here's a pic of the frame with the badging (badly) photoshopped out.

The Fox shock in the photo isn't to the original spec and isn't ideal for the frame, it's going to be replaced by something much more suitable but that needs new bushes before it can be fitted.

The frame with the shock removed (and the headset in the photo) with top hats but bolts left in place the frame is a barely credible 2128g, that's lighter than some OK quality HT frames of similar size.

  • No idea what it is.
Interesting rear set-up don't think I've seen one like that.

It's just a swing arm/single pivot, but with a linkage to drive the shock for (hopefully) better progression, often referred to as 'faux bar' as it looks a bit like a four bar but isn't! It's actually quite common, but many look even more like a four bar but actually the seat stays are just there to drive the shock.
