Strava-unwarranted kudos from a random?

Rather confused by this so thought I'd air it and see if anyone can come up with an explanation...
All my rides get loaded on to starva, this includes a couple of roller sessions, a couple of road rides and possible a velodrome session per week. None of them are particularly noteworthy, I'm lacking fitness at the moment so my road rides often don't even trouble by own PBs, let alone getting any KOMs, but approximately once a week someone on the other side of the atlantic is giving me kudos for a ride, seemingly at random.
I'm not interested in the social side of the app so I don't follow many people or have many followers so why is someone who is thousands of miles away and who I'm pretty sure I've never met looking at my rides on a regular basis and giving them kudos even though they are pretty crap???
Just can't work it out....

Love is a strange and wonderful thing, just enjoy it and hope they really are that far away from you and not in the bushes with a balaclava on0

There are a lot of people that just follow you to get followed back and get more Kudos on their own rides, I just look how many people they're following and if it's a lot then I started to block those types.
I've Kudos'd a few random people on here who have posted about reaching a milestone eg. Century or something, I'm sure they think who the feck is this random guy in Germany giving me kudos.
You certainly don't need to follow them back or feel you owe them something.0 -
Further proof that weirdos use StarvaI'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0
-
i get that usually from some random person in the states lol0
-
Yup, this morning I found I'd got kudos from someone across the pond on yesterday's ride which was really just a test to see if my bad back had recovered... not a pb in sight“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

This is the same as people following you randomly on Twitter. All they want it for you to reply in kind. A bit sad really. Best just ignore them and they will soon leave you alone.0

It would be good if the block function in Strava worked in groups - there's a number of people that give me Kudos for my morning commute and stuff that really isn't very exciting but even if you block them, they follow you through groups and add Kudos. All a bit odd.
Some of them seem to spend their entire lives giving Kudos within minutes of me doing a ride, I wonder if they ever get time to ride a bike?0 -
My profile is private, but there is a guy name Michael Bailey on Strava who gives my friends Kudos all the time, for the most mundane commuter rides. He doesn't seem to cycle that much, but follows over 4,000 people and has received about 25,000 in kudos. I don't get it myself but maybe there is a side of Strava that I'm completely missing.0

strange that this should come up,some guy from f**k knows where has started following me,i havent had any kudos from him nor have i even looked at his profile apart from the bit i seen where he is following 10,000+ people.dunno whats going on there   :shock:Lapierre Aircode 300

I get it every few weeks on some random slow commute, never on a stonking ride full of pb's and always from other country's....i dont even bother looking at who they are, clearly guys that cant ride trying to get into strava somehow.0
-
I had one guy who was kudo's every commute which is a whole 3miles...
which was fine if mildly annoying, but then a 2nd started, both where following 1000,s so I locked my account down and blocked them so far no more randoms!0 -
Sometimes I randomly click through people on Strava for no reason at all and once in a while I accidentally hit the kudos button. Worse on mobile.0
-
Anyone can put 'Request to Follow' on their profile so their rides are only seen by people allowed to follow them.0

I assume you're a member of "Starva"?0 -
If that works you guys up, something isn't right.
Who cares? I like to think I get the kudos because even my commute is that beast.0 -
could be a whole lot worse - a bloke who lives about a mile from me has started following me!!!0

I've been following you for ages and I live miles away. I've even got some of your underwear.0 -

Is that you Toby??
Have just checked and my stalker only follows 13 people and six of those are in Italy :shock:0 -
I've been known to use the 'fly-by' feature to see who I've passed during a ride, and give them kudos, but never just some random person in another country? Does Laurens Ten Dem count?0

Are you a member of any club/group on there? That makes your rides visible to any other member.0
-
I do look at the Strava clubs I am in and give kudos where it is due. Surely the whole point of joining an online virtual club is for that kind of support?
Some clubs are strange though, I have seen some clubs where the average rider can get up to 300 kudos per ride or run, even if it is a 2 mile pootle, downhill to the off licence.0 -
Some people just give kudos, or click on a "Like" icon, depending on whether its Strava, or Endomondo, or even Facebook posts, when they feel like going down the list. they will even go through workout sections of a particular date and click away. No reason I know of, I get this on Endomondo all the time.
Of course the ones above that suggested the lurker or stalker might be right  , best be watching over your shoulder  while you are out .Lets just got for a ride, the heck with all this stuff...0 -
Fortunately I don't have a stalker like most of your guys seem to have. I do have a few 'Kudos Everything' types who I sometimes ride with, doesn't matter if it's a short, easy ride which really doesn't deserve kudos, I still get it. One guy will give kudos within a few minutes of uploading the ride, almost every time, I swear he either gets notifications whenever a ride is uploaded, or he spends the entire day refreshing his feed on Strava.
Personally, I only give Kudos where it's due, whether we've had a really enjoyable/eventful club ride, somebody has put in a long ride or done a tough event.0 -

we are not members of the same groups. If it was a flyby I would assume he would post a comment and thank me for the tow or whatever it was0 -

I never give Kudos so I am not that interested in receiving it.0 -
How do these people actually find your session so quickly? I can't see a way to do it other than trying recent activity numbers which works but is fiddly.0

Make sure your webcam has a secure password.0

Its really weird and a bit worrying really, I had to turn off notifications on my phone because of all the pop ups. Now I just block immediately if they're not someone I know on here.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0
