Is it ok to wear a yellow/Worlds/etc if someone else has bought it for you (they not being a cyclist) and not knowing protocol? After all, there is no feeling like a nice new Lycra feeling (well, there are, but we can't discuss them on here).

Is this just to complete the set?

We've had helmets, waving, I guess we still need red light jumping

Well this is a bold shot at 'most idiotic thread of the day'. It certainly gets my vote - added points by being posted by someone who has been around long enough to certainly know better!

No - its a serious one.

Obviously a cyclist knows the protocol and can make an informed decision regarding the wearing of clothing, but with the Season of Giving (copyright Mammon) coming up its likely that a few of these things will be given to The Unsuspecting.

As free clothing is always a bargain in my book, does the freebie-ness of of it negate the faux pas of (or otherwise, depending on your viewpoint) actually wearing it?

Frame the jersey in a cheap click frame and display above the fireplace.
  • it can be done, but you'd need to change your username to MatthewFail...

And perhaps invent the middle name of Epic or something.

Whether or not you wear specific jerseys only matters if you care what everyone else thinks. If you don't the question is irrelevant. If you do, you'll have to wear a sign saying "This jersey was a gift, so it's okay for me to wear it" so everyone will know and you can make yourself feel better about it. Quite honestly, stop worrying what other people think and get on with it.

Wear what you want including any of the jerseys you mentioned, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I think it should be encouraged as it will help you to realise who the bellends that like to preach what others wear are that bit quicker.

There's a cafe in Stockport that use UCI World Champs coffee cups. If I've never won a World Championship medal should I refrain from drinking coffee there?

I would suspect that a café like that sells very expensive coffee so the answer is yes.

These jerseys are great Winter wear, because you can put a jacket on top of them.

WC/Race leader jerseys - not so much
Full team it - asking for a heckle
    Current Team kit - meh
Old (i.e. last year/old design) team jersey over non descript black shorts - fine
Classic team kit - pretentious but fine

However, Wear what ever you like and know that anyone who tells you different is a massive tool (and most certainly has a very small tool) - Excellent!
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Are we talking about you (i.e. you have been given one) or just generally?

Sounds like its you, but that you do not actually have it yet.
Have you put it on your Christmas list?

In answer I would say it makes no difference where it came from.
You will be no less guilty than any of the Wallace & Grommet etc. wearers who will say "It was a Christmas present and I felt I had to wear it".

  • Wear what you want- no one should care what you wear on the bike and those that do aren't worth the company anyway.

It was hilarious to watch a guy in the then current team gb track kit walking up a gentle hill on the L2B a few years back though, as well as when you see an Augustus Gloop impersonator in a King of the Mountains Jersey. It's also useful when newbies with too much cash go out in their full Team Sky kit so you know to give them a really wide berth when passing
But, they're still lapping everyone sat on the sofa though, so kudos to them.

I thought I was truly shown that my bike was too clean to photograph. I only ever wash the bike before working on it.
