Insurance question-someone crashes racing

As someone who's had a claim for a snapped frame I'd say the insurance is well worth it.0

How much for the policy out of interest? I would be gutted if I suffered expensive bike damage in a race (although my main concern about crashing is really injury to myself and/or others). I got taken out in my first road race, some chopper cut straight across my front wheel in the run up to the finish as he was getting a bit over excited anticipating the sprint. Didn't even apologise (although he was overheard acknowledging it was completely his fault )and I limped home with half a carbon bar hanging off. No insurance, but lessons learned...0

Think mine is about £45 a month for £5000 of cover.0

Even if your bike cost £5k, what sort of crash would cause £5k of damage? Maybe if the bike caught fire?0

Well its covered for theft from my house as well...as my home insurance won't cover it. Yeah it's not cheap but neither is a broken frame, wheel, saddle and carbon bars which was what happened last time0

Comprehensive insurance from BC incl. theft and race cover will cost you about 12% of the value of the bike. My bike was written off in a crash in the Spring and they paid out the full insured amount pretty much immediately and with no quibbles.
All I had to do was list the damage and provide pics, and send them a mechanics report from my LBS. I got a brand new bike, a high-end rented bike whilst I was waiting, and I was able to buy my smashed bike back for fifty quid and salvage it for parts, most of which were undamaged.Superstition begins with pinning race number 13 upside down and it ends with the brutal slaughter of Mamils at the cake stop.0 -

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. £14 a month for 2k worth of bike. Includes racing etc. Quite happy with that.
As DavidJB says, I am convinced it would be worth it if I cracked my frame etc.

Crashes happen in races....( sorry to sound harsh) if you are worried or nervous don't race. I used to race and have been mangled in a few crashes, it happens when you have 50 riders in a pack. I just accepted we all understand that this was a possibility within the dynamics of peloton. Obviously, if someone grabs your arm or bars to gain advantage ( I have seen this at Eastway by big names during E,1,2 races ) and if that causes a crash then that is different, on the whole, YES your BC license offers insurance. Even in the worst of my crashes in a race I have never made a claim, I just accept I have put myself in a situation where I can right off the pride bike.....best tip, go for a break away and have the power to maintain it0

I raced a while and have had a few spills...it never even crossed my mind to sue the riders.0

I was marshalling at that race and the accident happened in front of us as the convoy pulled over.0 -
I added my bikes to my home contents insurance as part of the personal items insured anywhere outside of the home. Yes, you have to specify bikes specifically but the premium amounted to only a few quid extra a month. This particular insurance company stipulates they aren't covered for competition, but you don't need to tell them that. Plenty of accidents can happen just riding along.... 8)0
