    Kinesis 4S owners...
Looking at geometry, seems to be a fairly long top tube.

    I'm 5'11" with 31" inside leg.

54 frame looks the right size. (With probably a 110 stem)

Anyone similar height also hold for the 54 frame please?

I don't think it is a particularly long top tube really, there seems to have been a slight trend towards shorter top tubes and longer head tubes to get a more upright position and to reduce reach. I'm just just under 6' and probably have slightly longer inseam and ride the 57 with a100mm stem, I could have possibly gone with the 54 and run the longer stem but the saddle to bar drop would have been quite large, with the 57 I don't need any stem spacers as the head tube is 200mm but the bars are only slightly higher than my other bike. For me the 4s is my wet / touring bike so is setup slightly more relaxed. It's such a cracking bike I use it a lot, it's my go to bike for club runs and more relaxed rides and with 28mm tyres is fine for bridle path, cinder paths, etc with the kids.
If you can't get to see one can't you compare the geometry against your current bike?
  • I have one of these, albeit a different model. Cannot fault it.

Why the 4S and not the T2?
I'm debating between the two (both of which would probably be a step up from a GT Series 4 frameset), but I'm trying hard to reconcile the extra cost of the 4S over the T2.
    T2 + DC07 fork + headset at ~£300-310 vs. a 4S frameset at £465?

If you look around you can get the 4s frameset, ie frame, fork, headset, seatclamp for £415. If you can afford it I think it's worth the premium over the T2.

Thanks ba68 - just checked against my 2013 Canyon Ultimate CF size 56 and the Kinesis 4S in 54 is spot-on.
  • Planet X London in more visible green (or the silver) for £800 using the voucher code that expires on Tuesday 2nd?

I agree they look long to me too. Im 5-10 with 33.5" leg and the 54 would be my size but its quite low at the front.

The Genesis Equilibrium is limited to 25mm with guards, 28mm without. The Genesis Criox de Fer 10 comes with 35mm tyres so 28mm plus guards is ok.
Didn't spot that, I think they have dropped a clod limiting the frame to 25mm max with guards fitted.
Unless they've changed the design recently the Equilibrium is fine with 28mm tyres & guards.
The review I read was for the 2015 bikes and frames here, (road.cc) were it states 28mm without mudguards and 25mm with. They could have there facts wrong I suppose, anyone on here buying one or a frameset to build up?

"A new fork, which we first revealed to you back in February, has been designed by Genesis. It features an alloy steerer tube with mudguard eyelets and has space for up to 28mm tyres without mudguards, 25mm with. Continental Grand Sport 25mm tyres are fitted to the production bike."
Sorry, didn't realise you were just talking bout the disc. Seems a bit of a compromise but I guess the OP could run 28 at the back and 25 at the front if they were swung on the disc version.

Edited my original post - I've just fitted 27mm Vittoria Paves to my 2015 Equilibrium disc, with SKS narrow mudguards and the standard Aksium rims. Not a lot of spare space, but enough.

It's not too long if you prefer a racier geometry and the 4S is a racing bike. I'm 5'11 and a bike fit puts me on a 57cm which is on it's way. As an alternative to the 4S if you want discs, the Kinesis Pro6 Disc, is worth a look.

Can you give me an idea why?
What do I get for the extra £100 or so that makes it worth it?

    It's all in the frame.
4S = Kinesium tubing (stronger material, allowing for thinner tubing/buting, and hence lighter and slightly springier ride). The tapered head-tube also makes for stiffer front-end.
T2 et al = 7005 alu tubing (or such like). Perfectly decent frame, but not in the class of the Kinesium frame in terms of lightness and (to a much lesser extent) ride quality.

I had the much older sister of the 4s, the TK2.
Lovely frameset. Got stollen 2 years ago, and I have not recovered from mourning!
    Very low front-end though....

  • I bought a Cannondale CAADX cross bike for commuting during the winter last year and I can't fault it. But I do sometimes think I would have been better off buying the Whyte Dorset I tried, even though the C'dale has a better group set the Whyte has road frame geometry. And while I've had all my bikes fitted I can still feel the difference.
Both of them have disc brakes which are an absolute god send on mucky roads.
If I was to find myself in the position where I could have only one bike I'd have the Whyte or something like it.

Surly pacer had done me proud for a couple of winters now, can pick them up second hand for cheap too.
I have sks guards and 28c. I changed the front fork for a carbon jobbie, but not really necessary.
Alternatively surly straggler gives you discs and more clearance, plus rack mounts if you want it.
