Kinesis race light 4S £1197 or buy the frame and build yourself.

The Genesis Equilibrium is limited to 25mm with guards, 28mm without.

Edit - I just fitted 27mm Vittoria Pave's to mine, with SKS narrow guards and the standard rims. Not a lot of space but enough.

The Genesis Criox de Fer 10 comes with 35mm tyres so 28mm plus guards is ok.

Didn't spot that, I think they have dropped a clod limiting the frame to 25mm max with guards fitted.

I've just bought a Rose DX Pro for the same reasons. The DX Pro 2000 is 22sp 105, Avid BB& discs and comes with 33c tyres by default plus it can easily can easily take full mudguards. Also you can tailor the build as much as you want.

In standard build it's £950 including delivery but there's often a few weeks build time. Very happy with mine (2014 DX Pro 3000 version).

Another to add to the list is the Charge Plug 3. Wiggle have some 2014 models (Large and Small) on offer at a £300 discount.

If Sora is not to your taste then they do have higher specced models

Unless they've changed the design recently the Equilibrium is fine with 28mm tyres & guards.

The review I read was for the 2015 bikes and frames here, (road.cc) were it states 28mm without mudguards and 25mm with. They could have there facts wrong I suppose, anyone on here buying one or a frameset to build up?

Sorry, didn't realise you were just talking bout the disc. Seems a bit of a compromise but I guess the OP could run 28 at the back and 25 at the front if they were swung on the disc version.

I really think the best out of all the winter bike options at the mo is the Kinesis 4S. No compromise. It's good enough to race on but ticks all the boxes.

    In fact...

Just recently got a Dolan Prefissio, only just takes 25mm on the back wheel under the brake bridge, and I had to remove the mudguard bracket and tywrap the guard directly to the bridge to stop it rubbing.

Not good on a frame with mudguard eyes.

I have a CDF and a 2014 Equilibrium Disc at present. CDF was too big so bought the Equilibrium disc frame and forks in the sales. Just started moving the CDF parts over and I can get 32mm tyres on no problem and mudguards will fit with a tiny bit of fettling. CDF F&F will be up for sale soon.....

been looking at the CDF, i have been rather stupid as realised buying a complete bike would be a waste as i have lots of parts that could go towards a build. so back to the CDF....now this is probably a really stupid question but since its a disk frame can i build but with rim brakes etc rather then disk? other then that i am currently looking at the ribble cx.

Whole bike or frameset to build?

I have a Racelight Tk which is now 7 years old and it still is a lovely ride. In the subsequent years Kinesis evolved it through 2 versions of the Tk2, the Tk3 and now the 4S. In the process the headtube got taller and tapered, it got a beefy new fork, and I quite like the current paint schemes.

So I think you're going to love it!

Nice. Nearly bought a TK3/4S Frameset myself.

Managed to find a nice Milanino Training frame at a good price though and went for it.

I think the Kinesis is probably a stiffer racier bike with the tapered carbon steerer, but the De Rosa does look lovely!

    +1 for the Kinesis 4S.
Built mine up around a month ago and can't keep off it.
Even after such a short time, I'm debating selling my Sram Red R3 and riding the 4S all year - seriously.
Mudguards going on v soon but running Gatorskins 25s and there is tons of space.
Really is a joy to ride.

Just the frame/fork. Will have athena group and Wheelsmith Ambrosio wheels. Deda finishing kit. In fact I'll be moving my stuff over from my Ribble.
Im currently running Vittoria pave 24mm tyres. May get some 27s and take advantage of the clearance :)

What groupset and wheels did you go for Sopworth?

(I'm thinking of a 4S, Ultegra, Fulcrum Racing 3's, 3T stem, seatpost, bars for about £1,450)
  • Why the 4S and not the T2?
I'm debating between the two (both of which would probably be a step up from a GT Series 4 frameset), but I'm trying hard to reconcile the extra cost of the 4S over the T2.
    T2 + DC07 fork + headset at ~£300-310 vs. a 4S frameset at £465?

One poster said a equilibrium will only take 25mm tyres with guards. The equilibrium disc will take 30mm tyres with guards. How do I know I am building one up at present!!!

Kenesis bikes are good but now there is disc brake for road why are you guy still wanting to wear rims out and put up with so so braking in the wet? Need to finish of the equilibrium and sell of the traitor.

Because I'll probably race on the 4s too. Not allowed to race with discs.

I used an 105 group set from my previous winter build, along with a pair of Fulcrum 5's (which have been bombproof for 4 years of utter abuse). I only had to buy a new seat post, cassette and chain.
Pushed it hard up a tough climb today and posted my fastest time in the process.
    Love this bike.
