Planet X CT45's?

So I was originally looking for a spare wheel set for my wives hybrid 700c, but then came up with a blinding idea, to let her have my stock Spec AXIS 2.0 leaving me to buy a set of wheels, however at reasonable low budget compared to wheel sets out there nowadays.
I can see the Plant X CT45's at £399 with 0% option too and that sounds like it fits into my wallet very nicely, just wondering what the opinion out there was on that wheelset or if there was something comparable at that price point?

Did you do a search? I think there was something complimentary on here when they first came out. On paper they look to be a good solid build if a little heavy. But they are a good price.0

On the back of an envelope, the rims must be around 600 grams per piece, which make them into pretty heavy things to accelerate or carry on a long day on the hills.
I guess it's the classic wheelset for those who want to be seen riding deepish rims and feel inadequate with anything shallow and if you have your own company I suppose you can use them as advertising space too.
For something more performing, you can buy similarly deep carbon tubulars that weigh half of that for similar money from China, if you are happy to take a puntleft the forum March 20230 -

Any links for clinchers at half the price? I would take a punt on that, but be handy to know others have tried them.0 -
I have a pair of the new 52mm clinchers and love them thus far. Considered heavy if I'm honest but they're really not much heavier than my higher end Ksyrium wheelsetAnd the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.0

Which ones? Price?
Just found these would they be a better bet then the CT45? http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Mavic-Cosmic-Ca ... _68171.htm can't figure out if they are tubs or clinchers?0 -

RTFD ....Cosmic Carbone SLS features time-proven Mavic carbon capabilities, blending aerodynamics and high stiffness, with one of the lightest aero clincher rims.0 -

Very tempting. Is £399 really a sale price or it's always like that, just wondering if I should take more time thinking or its going to move back to full price. Can't find any discount codes either, that would seal the deal.0

Yes it is FFS, I paid £550 for mine 2 very recently      :evil:And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.0

IIRC the 52mm use a narrower rim whilst the 45s use the current thinking of a wider rim so the tyre seats in a 'wider' profile. So in theory the 45s should provide a bit more comfort, whilst the 52s should be a bit more aerodynamic.
Check the details on the PX site though.
If you intend running 25c tyres the 45s make more sense too due to the wider rim. It may not fit in some bikes with very narrow chain/seatstays.
If you are after a single wheelset for use whatever the wind is doing then the 45s make more sense as they should be less affected by crosswinds. To be honest a set of handbuilts make more sense for a single wheelset...
I have some mavic cosmic carbones which are similar to the 52s. Aero, a bit heavy so better for time trials and maintaining speed rather than crit racing accelerations. They look lovely, make a fantastic noise, and have been reliable even though I'm 85kg. One drawback is I can't hang the bike up from the wall hook due to the carbon fairing, so I've gone back to my 32 spoke handbuilts!0 -

Out of curosity, I see some manufacturers boasting about wider rim on their tubular wheels.
On tubular wheels does a wider rim make any differance to ride quality, I would have thought a tubular tyre is the same shape no matter how wide the rim is?0 -

True, but the trend is for bigger tubs too... 25 and even 27-28left the forum March 20230 -
Can't believe you can get the tubs for £299!!

Stupid question maybe but will the wider rim still take 23mm tubs?
Must be worth a punt as a foray into tubs?0 -

How do you rate the hubs on these Ugo?Canyon Roadlite AL-Shamal Wheels-Centaur/Veloce Group

would the brake performance be any better with different pads - black prince or the like?
Really want a set of Zipps/ENVE but as a starter set and intro to tubs seems like a pretty decent deal for 20% of the price. The braking can't be that bad can it??0 -
Wonder how they would compare to these at same price?

Well they look better for starters
I have the CT45 tubs and I think they are amazing wheels (especially for the money), light and they spin for what seems like forever. The pads that come with them are half decent but wear very quickly so I use yellow kings now, much better performance but you have to clean your rim (insert arse gag here) all the time which is not much of a hardship as it comes off easily with nail polish remover.0
