Forks/steering diving/twisting

So, I'm not sure whether to put this under workshop or beginner, but figured it's more likely to be me doing something wrong than the bike...
Anyway, last couple of times I've been out riding I've felt like the forks are almost "buckling" and trying to put my wheel at 90 degrees to the direction of travel when I'm doing moderately sedate corners. I've recently shifted to a 50mm stem from a 70mm so I don't know whether I've done something to affect the bike's handling but it doesn't feel like I'm twitching the steering too much.
Does it sound like an issue with the forks diving (I am braking a bit before hitting the corner) or am I doing something wrong? Or do I just need to get used to the new stem length?
- Forks are Fox Float 32 140mm evolutions btw

Hold the front off the ground and give it a wiggle - is something loose? also check there is no play in headset from changing the stem.0

Will give it another check tonight but did a lot of waggling after the installation and it all seemed pretty kosher.0

Turn the handle bars/forks at 90 degrees to the frame and push the frame.
Should be able to determine if the head set it slack.
Have you checked your front axle is tight?_______________

Front QR and front tyre pressures would be my first check.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

QR was done up tighter than a... tight thing... and Tyre is sitting around 30PSI, should I try going a bit firmer?0

Shortening the stem quickens the steering and maybe throws your balance off a little. Too much weight on inside bar might cause that folding under.
Definitely sounds more likely to be a change of ride position and, for want of a better word, skill issue.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
No worries, as I say in the OP I'd guessed it was more likely to be me than the bike! Thanks for the advice guys, I'll just have to put more hours in on the bike.. ooooh nooo.... :P0

Depends on the tyre, have a look at the side walls to look for evidence of tyre squirm. If so up a couple of PSI. If its rider position, try moving the seat forward a few mm or dropping the stem 5mm.0
