Speedplay knee pain

Recently bought some speedplays but since using them I'm experiencing knee pain at the top of my knee. Could the amount of float be causing the pain. All the sites I've looked up suggest float is a good thing to prevent knee pain.

Thanks

Have you swapped from a pedal which has a higher stack height (Look Keos for example) than the Speedplays? If you have, then you'll need to adjust your saddle height to compensate. However, pain at the front of the knee usually indicates a saddle height which is too low, which is contradictory to what would happen with the Speedplays having a lower stack height.

You could also try dialling-out some of the float.

Were you previously using a different clipless pedal system? If so, are you certain you didn't inadvertently change the cleat position while changing over?
In my case changing to Speedplay definitely helped with some existing knee pain and that seems to be most peoples experience. I don't know if there are some specific issues it could exacerbate.
  • I did a little more research into the setup last night. I hadn't realised that there was float adjustment with these pedals. Screwed everything up nice and tight and guess what - no pain. I was also using Keo's before so my saddle could probably do with adjusting as well.

    Thanks for you help!

I would love to try speedplay to help with the knee pain i have at times but they're a serious price.

I doubt it's the pedals. I vote for operator error. Bad setup. That sort of thing. To blame Speedplay is grasping at straws. Also, have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, something has gone wrong with your knee and that no pedal will help?
