The harsh reality of the difference between being a domestique and being the protected riderI think he ran a little bit wide on the corner and his back wheel skipped on some ruts in the road and slid out, with Dario ending up flat on his back up beside a tree at the side of the road. When we heard the bang behind us, we didn't know who had fallen and looked around for Chris. We couldn't see him so there was a bit of panic for a few minutes before we caught a glimpse of him a bit further back

IIRC Cavendish writes in At Speed that he didn't want Hansen included in the HTC Tour squad as he was jittery in the peloton and crashed a lot. he was included and crashed out.
If Hansen fitted a proper set of handlebars to his bike, he might be a little less jittery on the road.

Glad to hear that Cataldo won't be starting today, he shouldn't have been allowed to carry on and finish the stage yesterday given he had taken a knock to the head and didn't know where he was.
Was thinking about this - there must be big pressure to get back on the bike. Is there a case for allowing dom substitutions in stage races following verifiable injury (particularly concussion)? Guess the risk is teams saving eg TT specialist or climber and riders throwing themselves off in the last km of the day before.0
