If I have this right, 3 DNS today ... Gesink for personal reasons and Cancellara & Boonen probably in order to prepare for the Worlds.0

The "Twice up the Tumble" stage. Nice. :P
Do the GT boys want to play for the stage bonus seconds and perhaps a few seconds on the road, or will a breakaway be given it's head again?
Not sure, but I have a feeling that Sky will try and make it the former. The do or die attitude."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Before things get going, the LaVuelta gallery by @brakethrough on the CyclingTips website is worth a look.

Btw, as the ignorant I am I thought they didn't have one descent to the finish line in the whole tour.
Boy, do I look silly now or what!0 -
An early break is yet to settle down. Le Bon was alone up front a while ago but has been joined by Losada, Vorganov, Castroviejo, Janse Van Rensburg, S Clarke, Gilbert, Txurruka, Hardy & Levarlet. Koen de Kort has abandoned the race due to saddle sores.0

Crazy speed. 53kms covered in just over one hour and still no sign of a break being established."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

LL Sanchez 32 seconds clear of Sky Train led reduced peloton at 25.5km to go, couple of riders trying to bridge over. 2km off the summit.0
-
Sanchez takes the points over the summit, Sky with 5 inc Froome still at the front. The descent from the summit to the finish looks fast rather than technical.0

LOL
Someone sprinted for the wrong banner.
Froome went for the 9k to go banner - the sprint was about 100 m later
Edit CN reckons it was the other way round

Chris Froome sprints for the bonus seconds. There seemed a little confusion over the sprint banner (shades of 2011), but it seems Froome has picked up two seconds for his troubles. Movistar had riders in front of him and behind, but Valverde was conspicuous by his absence in that dust-up.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
Froome takes bonus seconds from the sprint, several movistar riders tried to sweep all the points up but I think Froome got 2nd if not 1st.
Cofidis rider has a pop as they hit the climb.0 -
Contador, Valverde and Purito caught the break, Sky pacing Froome up.
Barguil goes...
All together briefly then Barguil goes again.0 -
Coppel has about 10 seconds after Barguil gets caught.0
-
Aru attacks, 3.7km to go and catches Coppel. Froome & Contador etc all together in a "select group".0
-
Purito starts pulling GC contenders towards Aru.
Froome attacks and Contador waits for Valverde to chase. Froome up to Aru.0 -
Froome dragging Aru, Valverde trying to pull. Contador looks easy but letting Froome go?0
-
Froome & Aru have 15 seconds.0
-
The 3 behind are playing games with each other again0
-
Contador working, Valverde struggling.0
-
Froome and Aru on the downhill to the finish with ~10s gap0
-
Hitting the descents with Aru/Froome having about 10 seconds.0
-
Aru takes the stage, Froome takes 12s on the other 30
-
Aru jumps Froome for first, Valverde 3rd but drops approx 14 seconds inc bonuses to Froome.0
-
Lots of motor-pacing from the camera bikes for the three amigos on the run-in. What a joke.
Good to see Froome sticking it to 'em.
