Testing finish that. Should suit Gilbert (assuming he is still in the race?).
  • According to Vuelta technical director Paco Giner, “It’s pretty hard with a 2 kilometre climb and a passage at 14 to 16%, followed by a downhill and an uphill in the park. It’s a complicated stage, very difficult to control and suitable for a breakaway.”

Orica keeping the breakaway to 2:40 after 59km.
  • Reading that europcar are on the front made me lol. The only thing they have done less than chase all season is actually win anything.

Navarro is in the break, he is only 4:26 down on GC.

"The race depends on BMC really. If it suits one person, it’s Philippe Gilbert," Clarke said. "It can also be good for Michael Matthews so we might help BMC and Katusha to bring the breakaway back.”

Think that may be inccorect - it says it on the official ticker animation but in the text below it doesn't list him. Cnews don't have him either (although they likely just pull from the Vuelta official).

FDJ? Wouldn't have expected a Bouhanni day.
  • 10ks, Lut has 15 on Cunego and LLS and another 15 on the peloton now being led by Garmin.

FDJ.fr directeur sportif Franck Pineau has come up with the novel idea of asking his riders not to infiltrate the first break of the day, as he reckons it won't go the distance. "It’s a risk to take," Pineau said at the start. "But we’ve taken the lesson of Johan Le Bon's attempts to break away on stage 11.”

Cannondale visible presence near the front. I wonder if Sagan could have another go after being in the early break & dropping back.

Edit - not there after all!

Great attack from Navarro. Martin goes next followed by Valverde and Contador.

Navarro gets the win, not much if anything between the main GC guys.
  • NAVAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

What a win. Go like that 1.5km from the goal on this sort of finish is near danger yet he held them off.

So happy for win. Superb win.

Really happy for Navarro - been a fan from his days burying himself on the front of Alberto's mountain train and shelling GC contenders out the back

Is he to become another one of your boys, though?
He is Spanish so he has the necessary qualification.

I've always liked him. Don't forget he was AC's loyal 2nd man in lots of his wins. He is not one of my men but I respect him and it is nice to see him take a very rare win (4th).

Navarro's performance on the climb to Avoriaz in the 2010 tour was one of the dodgiest I can remember. I'm surprised any GC contenders riding clean didn't just pack their bags and go home after that.
