Looking forward to today, saw this on another forum and it made me chuckle.

The big question is, well, any (!) of these... will Contador make a Top 5 placing?... Will Dan Martin come good?... Will Kelderman and Uran keep up?... Will Aru start his Vuelta with a whimper?... Will Arredondo attack from miles away and then fade?.... Will Purito leave everyone else eating his dust?... Will Valverde stick something in Froome's spokes?... So many questions! All to be answered today!

It's only 4 kms but the 10% gradient makes it something for the mountain goats only - too long for the Ardennes style riders. With so many big riders and so many unknowns in terms of fitness, a pretty decisive test. The time gaps won't be big, but we'll know who's fit enough and who's not

Quintana saying he things it a bit early to have a crack and Contador will likely just see how his knee performs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Froome give it some. JRod is looking for the win.

I imagine Conatador has marked this as one of the stages for his proposed stage win.

Cheeky! Granted I should have got excited about the possibility of crosswinds on previous stages, it's just the Vuelta always seems to promise so much but delivers so little that I feel talk of crosswinds is akin to crying wolf.

Incidentally, I hope this live rowing isn't going to overrun. I always get the gas when I see Eurosport showing live anything before the cycling.

  • Meh, rowing wont over run, each race is only 2km long...

I know he wont feature today but has anyone seen Sagan at all in this race yet?

53km +8:40 to the boys out front. Garmin chasing hard now for some reason. Ulrika Hedging options.

    Good luck fellas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiDti_Xnnmo

  • Fat contract signed and probably a bit down in the dumps at the lack of TdF stage (yes I know he did brilliantly and had won the green jersey after 5 days but still) means Sagan is probably going through the motions for the rest of this season. Or trying to work himself in to a bit of form.

Someone ought to hand Sagan a copy of the story of Faust. It's only a matter of time. After all, Oleg is just another Mephistopheles, isn't he ? Or maybe he's the devil himself ?

    27km +5:30

    Garmin and Katusha chief assassins.

    20km +4:30

    Coming up:
From the top of Alto de Zafarraya, the following 40 km are a constant up and down, including the category 3 climb, Alto de los Bermejales (5.8 km / avg. 5.8 %). From here, the riders head towards the two intermediate sprints of the day. The road goes downhill most of the time, making for a fast pace. A morning breakaway won’t stand much of a chance when the fight for positions starts in the peloton.

    The finish
With 5 km to go, the riders enter La Zubia. The peloton will be going extremely fast at this point as all the GC riders want to be near the front. 500 meters later, the riders turn left onto the narrow Calle Cruz de San Antón. This is where the final climb begins. The first part is steep. Then, it evens out a bit, before the last 3.5 km kick up with an agonizing average gradient of over 10 %. What characterizes this ascent is the lack of corners. It’s straight-out all the time, making it a mental challenge as well. There is no place to recover before the line.

Carlton mentioned orange earlier, which would make sense to me given my rudimentary knowledge of Spanish geography and agriculture

^ Ta. Heard that the word marmalade was falling on hard times through lack of use. Shame.

The downside of building such a long lead is it takes you ages to toast. Great effort by the break. 11.5km, +2:25.

    Infernal Ulrika leadout: 7.5km +1:15.

3km. Vultures have their day. Top men all looking at each other.

Valverde on the front for Nairo. Good lad. Usual suspects all there. Cadel toast :(
