Anybody have any recommendation when it comes to turbo trainers preferably under the £200 mark?
I've been looking at the Tacx on Evans Cycles for £188, umm'ing and arr'ing about giving them a whirl is it worth it or one of them bits of kit that get used once or twice then put in the garage to collect dust?
Cheers

Depends what you want it for really, turbo's are a great way to get a workout in if you are short on time but they are not for everyone. If you have a plan in place then turbos are great for specific sessions in that they remain the same each time you use it (no wind etc). Also useful over the winter to maintain fitness if you can't stand the cold or the weather is too bad to get out.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Some love 'em some hate 'em. Mine is used year through, put some good music on then suffer. :shock:0

As others have said they are good for training but like life they are only as good as the effort you put in. So if you have a plan and the dedication to train you will see results.
As for the turbo itself you get what you pay for, but it's doesn't mean more money gets you a better turbo.
Basically the more money you pay the quieter the turbo will be, plus less vibration (I used to live in a 1st floor flat so a big one for me), better range of resistance/control, digital computer with cadence and/or power, some link into a PC/TV so you can see what your doing & then you have how well they fold down and carry bags for storage.
Have a look in the 2nd hand section and see if anyone's selling one on the cheap.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

The Tacx Satori can frequently be picked up at Decathlon around Christmas for about 130 quid (some bikeradar folks have bought them).
Personally I would consider a fluid trainer, the cheapest I've found is the Cascade from PlanetX at 149quid.

which I would use with my software: http://www.wattzap.com/ so I could ride video routes and do power training but that's just me. In any case whatever you buy make sure you can use it with some software such as wattzap, goldencheatah or trainerroad.BASI Nordic Ski Instructor
