Colnago C59 frameset

Is this frameset as lovely as my brain thinks it is? There's just the one left, and in my size  :P

Shame that I can't just ride a frame but would need to spend quite a bit more for grouppo + finishing kit (already have some wheels).

It's one of my favourite framesets. BSA bottom bracket, pretty straight forward cabling and rides well. Not the lightest, not the stiffest, but it's the one I usually end up riding.0

You know that the one in stock is GDCV - the silver and white one?0

Yes, and red bits around the dropouts. Not sure about the colour scheme to be honest, its a bit "different" from the norm.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

I love the GDCV colourway. I so nearly bought one late last year. It's a beaut'....and in my size too0

I think it looks great. With black wheels (Mavic RSYS or the new Fulcrum Zero's), stem, saddle and the SR groupset from your Rourke it would look the damage ;-)0
-
I have the 50mm carbon tubs that would go on it...but can't justify the cost or stripping the Rourke down for components.

IMO 50's on a C59 don't work. Skinny tubes need skinny wheels. See mine for reference ;-)0

Tube/lug construction - still the way (arguably) to build a carbon bike. It's a fantastic bike and I doubt most of us would ever find its limits.M.Rushton0

I put mavic c40's on mine which I think works well. As stated above, definitely not the lightest frame out there but I think it rides and handles superbly.

Yes it is!
I have an ACR in white/red and a couple of weeks ago seen my mates C59 in black. I think my bike is sexy, but his made me do a little sex wee...
Although he has built it into a single speed with straight bars for cruising to the pub! More money than sense!
His looks a bit odd, but very nice at the same time.My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
Gorgeous. BUY IT!!!!! So much nicer than the C60 imho.0
-
Beyond the ride quality - which I hear is fantastic - the C59 is the classiest carbon frame out there IMHO.
So what's the deal with them since the C60 came out? Current stock only?0 -

That is just plain wrong. How can he make such a lovely bike into his pub bike?! Straight bars? He needs his head seeing to That Nero version is my dream bike.0 -
Tiagra on a Colnago is sacrilege, I'd rather been seen on a Halfords BSO!WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

No, it's the same thing as Di2, only 20 years older... basically Shimano had to wait for the patents to expire to come up with their updated version of the same thingleft the forum March 20230 -

Sadly a purchase is not going to be made, I will bide my time, meanwhile I will continue to dream and salivate :PWyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

To be honest... the 50th anniversary Super Record groupset with gold bits was quite pathetic at the time and unless it is new and in the box and with a low serial number, it probably doesn't even hold its initial value 30 years on (if you correct for inflation).
The 80th groupset looks cack and tacky and the fact that it somehow filtered down all the way to Planet X it's a guarantee it will not hold its value...
I don't see a single good reason to buy itleft the forum March 20230 -
Plus I already have a Super Record groupset. The frame is where its at for me.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

I have a pic on my phone but im at work at the mo and cant get on photobucket to upload it. no doubt ill forget later too.
its also for his missus to use for a bit, maybe one day it will see a proper group set on it...My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
Seen a couple of GDCVs in the flesh (got to have the matching seatpost), I overlooked it when I bought mine and once I'd seen one for real I sort of wish I'd got one. Remember they look even better when not in regular side on shots, the belly logo with the italian flag really sets it off. Brilliant looking bike.
As for the bike. Yes, it is sublime. It's the handling that makes me smile, with Record or Super Record differential brakes, the brake feel, control and power really helps to be able to push it really hard on the descents where it feels so sure footed and in control yet completely nimble too. Love it.0 -

I think he is right... he bought a bike and he uses it without worrying too much... veneration for a piece of moulded plastic is plain wrong... just think about itleft the forum March 20230
