Was wondering why no-one had mentioned this so far. Yes, I'll have it running on my second screen as I work, too.

Womens not the most exciting race at the moment 49s between 1st and 2nd. Surprised to see a rider fom kenya with what looked like normal trainers and plastic pedals.

    Course looks fun and fast

sure its not the most tech of courses, but i reckon it would be fun to ride. Agree its not the most exciting to watch - but that good for productivity in the office

The men's is more interesting as it's closer and there's more speed.

I notice they're all on hard tails, and there a lot of Lycra and no pads.

EDIT: Correction: They're not all on hard tails, just most of them.

As a general rule courses which are fun to ride often don't race well, and vice versa! For racing you want a mixture of singletrack and wider sections to pass, plus they're usually short laps - 15 minutes or so, so not hugely conducive to being a destination for social riding.

Well the mens race was much more exciting. hell of a speed of the sprint to finish.

Tbh I find xc racing more absorbing to watch than DH, after watch a few peoples runs at dh i loose interest

The women looked so much slower than the guys. Down the duel part the guys looked seriously quick the women just seemed to let the gravity to the work.

They are, quite significantly so. Take the last round of the National XC series:

Men elite winner: Dan McConnell (Trek Factory Racing)
    Laps: 7
    Average Lap time: 00:12:53
    Fastest Lap time: 00:12:29

Women elite winner: Rebecca Henderson (Trek Factory Racing)
    Laps: 6
    Average Lap time: 00:15:52
    Fastest Lap time: 00:15:08

So the men are 25% faster, over a longer distance. Can be more than that too.

Years ago when I was very fit I rode with some national XC MTB'ers. I struggled to keep up with them on the first flat section and on the first sizeable climb they just destroyed me. Lycra or not they are very fast, fit MTB'ers who know how to handle bikes ;)

Very good men's race, it was genuinely intriguing and of course Plaxton not making up his mind wether to stay with the other three or not helped.

So 2 of the top four were on 'dales so I guess we all 'must' rush out and buy one for XC work!

He seemed to lose out on the climbs and, on one lap in particular, made up a big chunk on the dual down section.

Says the man making 'jokes' about the riders sexuality. Hi-fucking-larious.

As for Plaxton on FS, some riders just offer to use the same bike all the time - Kulhavy always uses an Epic, Schurter (nearly) always uses a 650b Scale etc.
