Final 7 days - training advice needed

On Sunday 3rd August I'm doing a charity ride that is a 50 mile figure of eight centred on Keswick in the Lake District and taking in Whinlatter, Honistor and Newlands passes.

I'm a long term recreational cyclist but for a variety of reasons I hadn't turned a pedal this year until four weeks ago when I signed up for this. I've followed a very basic training regime riding on alternate days and typically covering 25-30 miles on a weeknight ride, and 40ish miles on weekend rides - I'm now completing the rides comfortably and my average speeds are consistent across all distances. I feel like I've regained a reasonable level of fitness and have lost about 4 kilos along the way so I'm feeling nice and trim for the big hills.

I'm sure I would benefit from a more structured approach to my final week so I would welcome your thoughts on what I should be doing in terms of riding, resting and eating in the run up to the big day.

Many thanks in advance.

Nothing you do in the final week will make much difference, tbh - you might as well just keep on doing what you are doing already...

Agreed. Depending on how young you are and how hard you've worked up until today, you should rest up 4-7 days before the event, maybe just turn your legs over a bit. 50 miles isn't that far on the road so you'll be fine.

Just an easy ride on Aug 1 to get completely warmed-up, but not fatigued.
A rest day on Aug 2 with a good diet and plenty of sleep.
The Aug 3 ride will be fine. But don't over-extend yourself by riding with a group of faster riders. Find a group that fits your ability and who are pleasant to be with!

Thanks guys, appreciate your thoughts. I'm thinking tomorrow will be my last big ride, followed by some shorter sessions on tuesday and wednesday. After that it'll just be some rolling around, plenty of food on saturday and no hops based 'energy drink' on the night before the ride. Wish me luck, Honistor looks tough.
