If Péraud stays on his bike he's guaranteed a podium. Great story.

IIRC Divine Wind is Arashiro (Japanese rather than Chinese). I believe we have Macaloon to thank for that one?

If Nibali wins he joins the triple crown elite. And it is very elite - there exist only 5..

Had a flipping visitor 50kms from the finish.
Only now able to catch up.

Lucky there's nobody in the race with any ability at all, or else that would have looked really suspicious; Lance like even.

It was a reference to a spectacularly sacrificial turn in a breakaway. I tried to disown it on reflection due to the unpleasant connotations. Best binned.

Come off it. He put 1:10 into Pinot and 1:15 into Péraud. What would Quintana have made of that?

    Dunno. Where's he posting?

How much time do you think Froome could have taken out of Nibali, today?

^Well she got her 15 seconds of fame. Moto gave her a push too.

I too hope the phone broke, but I don't wish physical harm on anyone (except maybe WC in the Giro).

The 2013 Froome dropped twice in the 3rd week by Quintana and J-Rod for a total of 1:30? Froome hasn't looked as strong this year. Nibali now looks like an improved version of the 2013 Giro winner. And why shouldn't he? I think Froome would have taken back some time in the Alps but would be struggling to attack by now.

The gap to the rest may well have been greater if Nibali had a challenger.

At 37.30 for Hautacam - a handful of seconds a best. But if Contador or Froome were to have beaten Nibali it would have been by a constant wearing away process. NIbali has been able to pick and choose his efforts. Had he had to have dealt with Contador or Froome or both for the last ten days he wouldn't have ridden 37.30 today.

looking at the stats the big mig who blew up and got dropped in 96 rode up there faster than nibs...lol

barring ill fortune...Nibali's tour is one the classist rides i've even seen in a Gt. he made his efforts just when it mattered on different terrain. a complete rider...... maybe contador would have clawed it back... maybe...

but it would have been close. Two and a half mins is a lot.... a froome who hadn't crashed in the dauphin [then the tour] may have thumped a minute into him in the TT, but Froome lost the tour at the dauphin in hindsight. And contador seems to have panicked under the stress of it all after stage 5.

Nibs won it fair and square and its about time someone won who demonstrated something more than the ability to go uphill. Thou to be fair contador has his moments, his last vuelta victory was a ballsy effort.

In fairness to nibs he did smash the Roubaix stage too.

fully agree. Hope to keep seeing Nibs in one dayers. Still, winners based on ability to go uphill trump those mostly able to TT best, right?

The previous two winners crushed everyone in the TT as well and Evans was strong all round.

    I guess

but i can appreciate a defensive ride based on a tt win and some are classier than others...see evans tour. that defensive chase of AS across the alps up the galibier was class. he never looked over his shoulder for help. he just knew it was mano to mano and got on with it.

valverde would not have a crack at the podium without his team evans rode solo for km after km in that chase across two mountains basically. thats not to say valvi pitis ride isn't canny. he is maximising his chances with a smart ride.

this tour has highlighted the tactics way more than recent additions because the tactics used to get yourself into the top ten are now on show for the podium. i think its a good thing.

Before the Alps started, Pinot and Péraud were 3:30 down on Nibali. Over two mountain ranges, they've lost an additional 3:30 or so. Valverde and Bardet lost 4:30+. Not bad.

Quintana helped himself to a (chaos-assisted) 4:11 win over Uran on Val Martello, and 1:30 more in the MTT.

When Froome and then Contador went out, he must have been torn. One half thinking, 'damn, people will say I only won it because...' and the other half thinking, 'Yessss, now, where did I leave the Ferrari catalogue?'
