Rest day 1 *spoiler*
News and opinion round up thread
So yellow jersey battle over, barring crash. You'd really need to take a big risk to try take it off Nibali and this is the TdF where coming 7'th is important. Valverde is the only rider who seems the type to do it, but enough teams hate him to close down any real attacks.
Cookson presser today so expect lots of bleating about Menchov.

News, comment, information, re-tweets, blurry stalker-photos of buses, stories etc. - put them here.
My rest day news is that the mighty Cheng Ji has made it though the mountains to the first rest day. He also sits alone in last spot as the undisputed Lanterne Rouge. There was an article about him in one of the Hong Kong English language papers today, telling how much of a tough time he is having but that he hopes to make it to Paris. It would be great to see him there.
Below is my poetic tribute to him in haiku form, entitled "Rider 107":
Through crosswinds, rain and mountains
Cheng Ji struggles on.

Well, Valverde lost 9 minutes on a flat stage mid-way in the TdF last year. The time gaps are still very small. But, yes, it looks like Nibali has this wrapped up already
Apart from perhaps Valverde and Porte the focus of most will now be on getting on the podium. A historical golden opportunity for a French, Belgian or Dutch rider. Could be more interesting to watch than them defending 7th...0 -
Not only the GC looking wrapped up, the Lanterne Rouge looks done and dusted unless Cheng doesn't make it through the high mountains.
The race needs Nibali to have a really bad day.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

It's a nice thought but Nibali would have to lose an awful lot of time to challenge Cheng...Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -

Tejay Van Lady Garden went down can't recall when he's been down alot.
Tichie Richie and Bertie were already for a great partnership... oh well.
Does Bertie fall off because his head is far too big for his body?
When it was all ahead of them.
A shoe. Not relevant....0 -

Hope there's a prize for most stylish rider, in which case it would have to go to Tony Gallopin in yellow on his superb yellow Ridley.

That Ridley is stunning. I've just sent them an e-mail to find out whether they will be offering that colour way for sale. It looks amazing.0

Yes, nice to see both the yellow and mountains jersey wearers so far behaving with a degree of style rather than appearing to look like they trying to win some sort of bet for the most ridiculous look of the tour0 -

Having posted multiple times in this thread, I just realised that 'Rest Day' = no racing and am now depressed. Anyone have a link to the parcours for tomorrow please?0

When is the Brailsford press conference where he announces this was the plan all along and that Porte is the real GC threat this year?+++++++++++++++++++++

Nailed on for a top 3, if they don't have any more casualties. expect Nieve to be his wingman, and G to provide as much support as he can up the mountains.
why did they not bring Kennaugh.... with those 4 supporting Froom and now Porte, they'd have had an enviable mountain train.0 -

I like it when Richie Porte either masks or enjoys the pain with a massive grin on his face. The boy will at least relish the battle and give it everything he has.0
