Snacks for longer rides.

Suppose we are all different, what works me:-
Alpen Trail Bars
Slice of nutty brown bread, toasted with peanut butter/chocolate spread on
Bananna
Luzcasade Engery Drink (not the fizzy ones) and plenty of water the night before and early in the morning.
Thick flavoured Milk shake (rugby player told me about this one, he said forget the sugary energy drink and try thick milk shake) have to say it did work, but I just had a quarter of the milk shake before I set off.
Porridge (really early on in the morning though) but a few hours before a long ride I'll dig into a Princess Tuna Light Lunchtime snack (think there's a choice of 3 flavours, some with beans in, some with pasta in) there quite light so not heavy on your stomach but I find they just give you that exta boost for later on while your porridge kicking in.

Ha haa, I could live with that!0 -
I can see this topic eventually being one of those touchy subjects like the debate about wearing a helmet. On the one side, the people who slurp energy gels and need to rebalance their electrolytes after every ride, on the other, the people who have a cup of tea and carry flapjack.
We need to think up a catchy name for the latter because I'm damned if I'm going to align myself with anything called "the tea party". I propose "the flapjack track snack pack", and our password is the name repeated a dozen timesSpecialized Roubaix Elite 2015

I think there are 3 categories:
Sports Nutritionists
Natural Food evangelists
Cake & pie eaters
I tend to veer between 1 & 3, with occasional experiments with 2...
As an aside - I did what was effectively (for me) a 25 mile time trial yesterday and didnt even take water, not even a bottle, and no nutrition/food/drugs etc at all - do I win a prize in the pi**ing contest?0 -
Museli bars and plain water. With a chocolate milkshake once I have finished0

No, there are only two categories:
Tea and cake

Well done for your 25 mile time trial, it was hot yesterday! After that I'm sure a pint of milk and a Mars bar would go down a treat.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Of course you don't, if you took more than an hour you don't want to be boasting anyway.0 -

I will admit - I only averaged 18mph. Maybe if I had filled up with gels and put drink powder down my bibshorts and tipped ice over myself beforehand then I would have done it in under an hour - thats what the pros do, dont they?0
