Heart Rate training advice please

I have just got a garmin with HR monitor, i have worked out my zones ect.

However the long rides at zone 1 or 2 are going to have to wait maybe till the end of the summer (time more than anything).

I manage to get out most lunchtimes in the week for between 45 - mins and and an hour. What would be the best level of training for such rides - is it worth doing 45 mins at zone 2 or should I concentrate more on intivials and 30 second sprints?

I fully get the "go slow to go fast" method but how do i get the most out of 4 lunchtimes a week with 2 hour rides on sats and sundays?

What are your training goals - ie, what are you training for?

ride 100 (sub 6 hours target) and then 4 day alps trip in september - ideally goals are weight loss (currently just under 14 stone) and endurance (comfortable with 50-70 miles over hilly route (kent hills like toys hill)...if that makes sense?

If you're going to achieve your goals, you need to find time for long rides - there's no way around that if you want to succeed. In the short spells you have (45 mins), you really need to be working intensively - the odd Spinning class may not be a bad idea if there's a really tough instructor to give you some idea how wrecked you should feel. But, to build endurance, you have to do the distance. Slow is best but plenty of miles and time. Don't waste your time in Zone 3. Go for Zone 2 or less (but aim for 1.5+ hours - the longer the better) and Zone 4 or more - the extremes are where the gains are.
