Trapped nerve

Some garden landscaping at the weekend has resulted in a 'compression in the deep peroneal nerve'. The crux of the issue is complete numbness, I can't feel my shin, top of foot, or lift the ball my foot off the floor, and I have "foot drop" as I can't lift my toes as I walk. It's as if my shin muscle has disappeared - it just won't do anything.

Several tests at the docs for anything more sinister. have been told to just rest and hopefully feeling will come back.

So I'm off my bike for potentially a long time!!

Anybody had this? How long did it take to heal? Any pointers for recovery?

You could consider going to see an osteopath/accupunture specialist.

Different to your problem but I have had issues with my lower leg before, resulting in chronic referred pain to my ankle joint, massage and needles does help with things like this so you could give it a go.

Funny you should say that, the muscle at the top outside of my calf is very tender and I wondered whether massage or even just foam rolling might help. Only thing is I don't want to upset anything and make it worse!

You may very well have a trigger point which is trapping the nerve or causing referred pain.

I have a lady that enjoys stabbing needles in to my trigger points to release the muscles.

    Great fun to watch too.
