Shoulder fracture and dislocation

I had an off on Wednesday resulting in a fracture dislocation of my right shoulder.
Medics managed to reposition after an hour and a half of manipulation under sedation. Fracture clinic appointment for next week.
This couldnt have happened at a worse time for me professionally.
Does anyone have any idea of how long i will be out of action for and more importantly when i can get back on the bike?

Depends what the consultant says next Wednesday at the fracture clinic - anything else before that is just guesswork. I was off the road for five weeks with a collarbone fracture, although I was on a static bike after a couple of weeks. Much will depend on what - if any - collateral ligament damage you have.0

4 weeks is a good guess. I was back to work within 10 days off but it was a bit uncomfortable sleeping for the first few days.
Take the ibuprofen to make the swelling go down. The pain isn't too bad.
Then invest in the resistance bands. You can loop these to door frames and work on your shoulder after the third week depending on your recovery time.
Your body will tell you when you are ready to cycle again.
Good luck.N2 - SW1

When I dislocated my shouler the first time I was back in work within a few days, albeit with my arm in a sling for a couple of weeks. I'm a desk jockey so the only impact was typing was much slower.
After a number of dislocations I had it operated on. Whole different game..... my arm was in a sling that was strapped to me 24/7 for 6 weeks and then there was another 6 weeks rehab after that. I was off work for the first 5 weeks. I did manage a few turbo sessions when my arm was in the sling but it wasn't easy.
If it's fractured and dislocated I'm guessing you will be off for some time. Remember to look after yourself too. After my first dislocation I went back to work way too soon and used to take it out of the sling so I could work faster. I'm sure that this had a negative impact on the healing process; I thought at the time I was "doing the right thing", but on reflection I'm not so sure.0
