According to the chart here http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/healthy-living/Pages/height-weight-chart.aspx
    I'm about 10 KG overweight.

I'm 6'1" and at the last weigh in was 95KG. I had a well man check at the doctors a couple of months ago due to hitting 40 and I weighed in at 106KG, blood pressure that was just on the high side or normal, and cholesterol of 6.8
Six weeks later I'd dropped to 97KG and cholesterol of 5.7, the nurse was astounded and wanted to know my secret!
To be fair I'd just come back from holiday where we'd been pretty bad. Plus I'd only just started cycling in earnest.
My belt has come in a notch too, and my climbing is improving! The doctors are keeping an eye on me anyway due to my family's history of heart problems, so this isn't something I've started as a flash in the pan, it's going to be a continuous effort.
I'm not aiming for a specific weight but if I could drop another 10KG I'd be happy.

I have bought a couple of tops to 'slim into' and it feels so good when they fit ;-)

Had to sell a load of nice shirts though. Still not sure if that was a good or bad feeling, even though I don't wear shirts to work these days.
Ties still fit fine at least

Have one new run top that I have yet to wear. Need zero belly for that one though and not quite there yet.

I'm one of those people who always appears slim but seems to hide fat inside there body. 10 years ago I was cycling a lot (most days, 3 - 5 hours) and weighed 72kg (I'm 183cm). These days I tend to ride maybe 3 hours 4 times a week and weigh about 11kg more without actually looking bigger. My cheekbones aren't as hollow and my moobs are a bit bigger but it certainly doesn't look as if I'm carrying a bucket of lard around.

As I know that 72kg is a healthy, doable weight for me I'll have to say that I'd like to lose 10kg, even though I look slim. My body will thank me in the hills.

I too am supposed to be 70kg - 5'6" and currently 82kg, I dunno, it seems pretty much impossible, given how easily I put weight on I would have to be exercising all day and basically eating nothing at all.

I'm 6ft 2" and I'm currently 102kg (put weight on over the winter/spring thanks to injury) and sitting in the middle of the NHS "overweight range".

The NHS website says I need to loose 24.3kg to put me in the middle of the "healthy weight range"

I've only ever really considered the top of the healthy weight range bit! Which for me is 70kg, to get into the middle would be 60kg!

I'm at 83kg, down from 98kg when I returned to cycling after some health issues for several years. My BMI is 24.7, now which is barely normal weight for my 1.86m height. I'd like to drop a bit for health reasons, not for the thought of being one of those whippet racers. I've been large my entire life, I was 1 month premature in my birth and still 4.5kg, tough on my mum for her first child.

I'm middle to top of the BMI chart for my height (5'11") and happy enough with that, could probably stand to lose a bit of flab but I've no interest in slimming down to 'cycling weight' - my 10 month old daughter would be able to beat me up if I was that skinny!

5'5" and generally hovering between 56-57kg, which is about the lightest I've ever been (at 34). Off to Austria on Sunday so should help getting up the hills.

Would like to get down to 11 1/2 stone but as im quite slim build i wouldnt want to go much below that as i would start looking ill !!!

I'm about 8 or 9kg overweight for what I would like. That's what the bike is for! It's been great losing weight.

I started my weight loss journey in 2009 weighing in at 138kg. I'm now down to 77kg and feeling great, so even if I am overweight technically anyone who cares doesn't bother me!

Well I am around 102Kg (16 Stone odd) & at 5'11" should be around 12.5 Stone

so I am the fat bloke even though I do not look that portly.

I'm the exact same I have quite a bit of musscel mass and this accounts for my "over weight" 5"11 16.4st not that the account for muscle mass on a bm I well I don't think they do

I've gone with 1 stone. I'm 5'7", last weighed myself a few weeks ago and came in at around 71kg I think. I've been around the 70 mark for quite a few years now, it used to fluctuate depending on how often I went to the gym (generally going up with gym work) and now I'm cycling this is probably the heaviest I've ever been. However, I've seen a notable reduction in the size of my thighs in particular, lost a lot of the bulk there but replaced it with stronger muscles as you'd expect which undoubtedly explains the increase in weight.

I'm not as slim as I'd like to be, I can wear tight jerseys and feel comfortable in them but losing some weight off my torso area would be highly beneficial I think. I have a **** diet though, and most of the stuff they say you should eat I really don't get on with. I'm not going to force feed myself stuff that makes me feel like being sick, so my weight will undoubtedly remain the same.
  • My main problem would be my stomach and my thighs. my thighs are huge, but as far as I can tell they are all muscle.
my stomach on the other hand is just fat, hopefully with muscle hiding underneath.
I have very little fat on my chest and back, but still I have a 41 inch chest. so regardless of how much weight I lost, my chest would remain the same size.
is it possible to slim down your thigh muscles?

I havent weighed myself in ages, will do soon and report back, if i had to guess i'd say i'm at the top end of ok, if not a little over.

I heard there is new research which suggests if you are fit but slightly overweight (bmi of 25 to 30) then you are more likely to live longer and not get as many illnesses. this is fit and overweight though, not just overweight and not exercising, so if you are cycling and slightly overweight you are doing ok :-)

I read that too. Also being "overweight" when older is apparently beneficial. I always found it odd that BMI charts have no adjustment for age - so that a 45 year old should still be the same weight they were at 21. Nonsense when you look at the population of the world.

My weight wanders around in the healthy BMI range so I'm not concerned. It tends to go up when I cycle a lot. I've hardly ridden the bike for 5 weeks now and I've lost 2 kgs in weight.

Weighed myself last night, 78kg (about 12 stone 3 or 4 i think) and 6 foot 2 (and a bit, it all counts!!) so BMI of 22, might try and get a little under 12 stone to help up the hills but not going to try too hard, life's too short!

That all sounds good to me.

You are meant to be in your easiest gear going up those hills (thats the only reason it is there) and you are not walking

I am currently 124 kg and 1.96m in height. According to the BMI calculator I am obese. I cycle to work and back 5 days a week covering 70 miles a week and usually 40-80 miles in 2 to 3 other rides in the evening or at the week end. I also walk 35 miles a week with my 2 dogs so I would class myself as fairly fit. When cycling I normally average around 17.5 MPH on my hybrid and 19.5mph on my road bike over rides up to 40 miles. My goal is to get down to around 100kg so that I can fly up the hills

I've just come back from a week's holiday followed by a 2 day departmental jolly, both of which involved eating and drinking a lot more than usual, and moving about very little. This morning I was still 5'6" and weighed in at 11 stone dead. Which is by my reckoning about a half a stone heavier than before the holiday, and a stone heavier than I ought to be. This would explain why my trousers feel a bit tight around the waist.

Serious dieting and longer bike rides start today. Not even having a beer tonight watching the footy.

Wow - what an achievement, losing 61kg! :D That must have taken a lot of determination and work.

How did you do it - presumably seriouly determined dieting as well as exercise? Are you able to hold your weight down at 77kg these days, with an amended lifestyle, or do you still have to work at it?
