Despite the absence of genuine GC drama - in any case the currency of the stone-cold classics - it's been an utterly absorbing three weeks.

    Needs more pink!

I was surprised he went full pink so early on. Nibali took a bit longer last time I seem to remember?

Indeed and awful it was with that ugly Astana blue.

No coverage yet on Eurosport. How long more do we have to watch this? If Federer and co didn't spend half their time wiping their brow down the back of the court between each point they might actually make some progress. Bloody lightweights.

Love that Movistar all have pink bar tape and socks - a subtle acknowledgement of their achievement. Pity Quintana hasn't felt the need to be subtle.

When a rider goes for broke in terms of matching jersey kit, is that usually his decision or the DS/team manager's, do you think?

I'd actually completely forgotten that Hoogerland was even in the race.

I wonder if ThomThom is watching: Lars Bak is out front with Svein Tuft.

Funnily enough I was asking myself yesterday why Hoogerland is a shadow of his former self. Either he is unhappy in his team, he is not on the gear or some other reason.

Very dark clouds in the background. If there was a sudden shower right at the end of the Giro it would be a kind of beautiful symmetry.

Only Farrar can stop Quintana now.

Under 3km to go. It's all over in the GC.

Mezgec takes it. Bouhanni didn't have the top end speed in the end despite having a great leadout.

Sugar me sweet that was actually a good effort by Farrar there...

Fair Play to Quintana. Small black cloud over it but not sure it makes any difference and lets be honest, a Giro win without controversy just isnt a Giro win

A good race overall IMO - I've always preferred Giro over TdF and this year has been well worth the watching. Kelly always an engaging commentator, but his helper really should learn the meaning of words such as "torture" and "carnage". An insult to the many people suffering from such acts as he speaks.

And so endeth the Colombian Grand Tour National Championships. First and second on GC, the mountains competition, young rider's competition and a shed-load of stage wins including impressive wins in both time trials for the South Americans. Sadly Team Colombia missed out on a deserved stage win but it wasn't for the want of trying.

It is great to see Quintana confirm last year's Tour result. Personally, I would love to have seen Uran take the pink jersey this year, though. He rode even more strongly than last year but it wasn't to be. He limited his losses when under pressure in the mountains while in the lead. He also must be one of the most modest and humble riders in the peloton and manages to do all of this while sporting an impressive mullet/pony-tail combo. A stylish two fingers to those in the bunch with over-coiffured hair-dos and beards! :D

Overall it was a good Giro and will probably be the best grand tour of the year. The up-coming Tour and Vuelta have a lot to live up to.
