Arrived on Friday and installed yesterday...after a trip to the LBS to undo the ridiculously tight, factory fitted Saint chainrings and bash!
Screwed the B-screw all the way in and it's tickety-boo right off that bat!...loving the uncluttered bar and seems to run pretty much silently. Impressed so far"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Swapped across the 50mm Spank Stem off the Bird to try out and it totally transformed the ride of the bike into awesomeness. Handled like a dream and no negative impact on climbing. I cannot believe the difference it has made and that it took me this long to try it out. This change paired with the Pike have really made this bike.
In a bizarre twist I also think the 80mm stem may be better suited on the Bird for my riding position as the 50mm felt a touch short and prompted the swap out. I will be putting that on and will see how the Bird rides and in the meantime get another Spank Stem ordered up in colours that suit the Remedy rather than the blue.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
Stem in white graphics arrived yesterday so did the swap last night from the blue and dis a little house keeping while it was off. Took a tube cutter to the steerer to clean up the hacksaw cut and reduce spacer height.
Jury is out on the red grips at the moment.
Will get a better photo later after my ride when the sun is in a better position.
Additional post ride pics.

I was having an issue with the Reverb sagging a little when sitting on the saddle which progressively got worse through last month to the point where it was getting impossible to ride with an inch of sag so sent it back under warranty. Got it back last a couple of weeks back and all is working fine.
Proper ride back out on it today and mangled the rear mech on some forestry and write it off. Managed to bend it back enough to be workable across some of the gear range losing the top and bottom 2 gears but enough to carry on with the ride. XTR replacement now on order plus some pads which I was due to order in the next week or so. Also managed a front puncture later on and got sprayed in sealant which initially confused the hell out of me feeling wet spraying on my legs.
Main purpose of the post was to update on the Pike and 50mm stem upgrades. Both performing very well and the set up of the bike at the moment is absolutely spot on in all departments. A shame Trek didn't offer this configuration out of the box although looking at the new 2015 Slash this is running pretty close.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

How are you finding the 36t ring? I want to go 1x but not sure what ring to get! (not sure on the number of teeth I require).0

Unless you ride with him and know his fitness relative to yours on the same terrain, its no use asking others what gear you need as only you can tell. If you currently have a 32t middle ring and you can ride everywhere comfortably in that gear and dont use the 22t then a 32t or bigger will work for you. If you use the 22t a lot and sometimes the 36t at the back too then 1x might not be the thing for you.
Look on Sheldon Brown for the ratio tables and figure out what gears from your current set up you can do without.
I got a 28t with a 42t range expander at the back to deal with steep tech climbs in the Whistler Valley but have a 36t with an 11-36t cassette on my hardtail for easier stuff.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

If you don't think that's useful info do you want me just to tell you that you need a 36t because that's what I have on my hardtail so it must be right?Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

What you on about you tool. I genuinely meant it, what's your f**kin problem pal?0 -
The winky face I took to be sarcasm - apologies. Winky face to me always means I am either having a laugh at someones expense or being sarky. And I saw it when in a bad mood mid night shift. So that's my problem. :oops:Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Yeah...
I get on fine with the 36t up front on a 1x10 setup. I'm running 36t on the rear so have a 1:1 ratio which works on the terrain I ride and my leg strength. It's not often I'm up there anyway, maybe one or two climbs a ride warrant it but I don't mind grinding up climbs as opposed to spinning.
I would take on board the advice already given. Maybe look to find as close to or match a 1:1 ratio with your current setup and see how you get on with that as your lowest gear. If it's a struggle then you know to either drop the middle ring size to say 32t or look into the idea of an expander on the rear of either 40t or 42t.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
Been out for a couple of rides now since putting it away in November for the Winter and have been left a little underwhelmed with the ride and feel. I think riding a few months on slacker bikes that feel lively has changed my preference on geometry leaving the Remedy to feel a little dead in comparison.
It is still a very quick bike and if I were into a bit of racing it would be worth keeping so I am in two minds whether to make a few changes to the bike to try and change the feel a little such as wider bars (the 720mm bars feel narrow now) or to sell it on and go with a different geometry alternative.
So alternative options I have been considering is shorter travel bikes, 120mm rear, 140mm front like a Solo but I'm not looking to fork out for Solo money having just done my Nomad build. Transition Scout is another option but if I were looking to drop that sort of money I'd like a Carbon option. This may be a future option should they release one.
A 140mm front and rear bike is still an option if it pedals well so I'm looking at visiting Bird to check out the Aeris properly having seen it a tonne of times already. Geometry looks really good, a touch longer than my Remedy but a little shorter on the seat tube unless I size up and go even longer reach wise and go with a 35mm stem. Something I'll need to try as wouldn't want to go too long on the wheelbase. The rear swing arm should make things fun out back plus they guys say it pedals really well which should find true if the VPP style rest end pedals anything like the Nomad does but in shorter travel guise.
Whatever the choice it will be a simple frame swap and a possible wheel change.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

Nice, did you size up?0 -
I did in the sense that I went longer with the medium but the 35mm stem brings reach back in a little. Fit felt good though and wheelbase is longer overall. Kept with the Debonair shock as they reckon it performs better then a CC Inline on that bike - something I have heard from a couple of other sources.
Will be building a similar set of wheels to the Zero Hardtail but with Ardents and run the same cockpit as the Nomad as I really like it. Everything else will swap across from my Remedy. Should be looking around June time.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
Thinking of ordering an aeris, would like to swing my leg over one really for sizing. I am medium in most bikes, want a stealth black ideally0
-
I thought the medium may be a touch long but found it was fine with the 35mm stem once I tried it out. I'm probably a bit shorter upper body wise so if found it ok then I'm sure you will as well.
I really like the black but my Remedy is pretty dark so fancied the opposite with the yellow. It's probably an early mid life thing as well!Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
How tall are you and what are your body dimensions bloggingfit? I am close to pulling the trigger, but have not got time to get to bird to try one. May have to cancel my order for a Capra if I go this way!0
-
Yeah, I thought you had a Capra or one on order from the pinkbike thread.
5'9" with a 33" inseam so a little leggy for my height. My arms from pits to finger tips are approx 24" to give you an idea.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
I have a Capra on order, but I love my Zero and the stealth Aeris looks awesome. I cant have both unfortunately. My Capra is due week 20, so i have a bit of time to decide and Bird said on facebook i could have a stealth frame within in a couple of weeks. Thinking black with some purple hope bling. My concern is i am 5'9 But have really, really short legs (29") my Zero feels a little cramped but I am worried if i go larger that with a reverb my pathetic leg length will cause me issues.0

Mines a medium with a 70mmstem. I have about 3" of dropper tube from the clamp I would guess.
Bit gutted Ben has confirmed the stealth black is sold out until June! Only the Bigfoot blue left in medium. Which doesn't suprise me as from what little I have seen its a hopping colour! Gutted!0 -
About the same as the Capra then.
You would easily fit a medium Aeris as it comes with a 30mm stem.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0
