And this research was indeed carried out by people employed for that purpose by Campagnolo. And they went out into the world and found that everyone thought Athena was a great name for a groupset. Everyone, in the whole world, except for DDD. And they though about it for a while and considered renaming the groupset Masculo. But then decided that they could probably take the hit in lost sales to DDD and stuck with Athena. And this is a true story.......

RJS that is just shocking, how did you photoshop a nazi pattern onto her skirt... What is the world coming too!

Next you'll be saying DDD has given up comics and his xbox.

It's a tetra-gammadion according to Wikipedia. Perhaps I should have gone for something like this.

So essentially they wanted to call it Wonder Woman but couldn't because of copyright infringement...

I too am perplexed by that picture rjsterry. Athena appears to have huge lamb chops and a trouser snake.

I like it, I think the previous stuff is starting to look at bit old fashioned and out of place on most modern bikes while the Dura Ace just looks cheap.

An Italian bike is an elegant streamlined work of passion, not a MAN-steed.

The feminine is elegant and passionate hence the naming Athena.

    Yuck
10 speed Dura-Ace was fugly, but when new 6700 Ultegra came out I thought it was pretty

Then it went 11 speed and lost an arm. Ugly stick strikes again.

At least Campag have tried. But it looks like an upmarket MTB chainset.

WHY did Campag have to slavishly follow Shimano??? Such a shame.

Still, on the upside, there should be plenty of cheap kit around as the rumour is, all groupsets are going to get a refresh. So I might go all "girly" and get some Athena, 'cos I'm in touch with my feminine side and like Campag.

It's just a hill. Get over it.

I still thinks it looks good, but would like to see it on a bike. It won't suit a sleek retro-bike, but there'll be old stock available for those for a while. My latest not-too-silly fantasy build for 2015 has Chorus EPS disc on it. :)

Make them stop!!!! I've just spotted the pictures of the new shifters. The nicest looking shifters made in years have been despoiled as part of this horrible process.

This is what the old shifter hoods look like:
    Campagnolo%20Chorus%2011-Speed%20Shifters%202011.jpg

They work very well. Over time, the ribbing on the top wears out and the Campagnolo lettering on the outside fades away - but it all looks fine whilst it is happening. The ones on my Ribble have done 22,000 miles or so and look acceptable even if only the C and O in Campagnolo are still just about visible!

Look at what we now have.

    Campagnolo-Super-Record.jpg

There is no need for all that texture on the side - it serves no function other than to look crap as it wears out; your hand isn't going to somehow stick to the hood better because of that texturing. The bizarre white highlighting of the Campag lettering which serves the same cynical purpose - to make you buy new hoods far more frequently than before.

And please don't get me started on the rear mech..........

  • I kinda like the rear mech...

This new Campag kit will look good on the new Aero frames, but rubbish on more traditional/Ti frames. I don't really like it, but it's still better looking than Ultegra/Dura Ace. I'm resigned to having Shimano on my next bike, but will probably swap it for Campag at some stage...

So they've replaced one style of cheap hard plastic hoods with another!

I still prefer a nice soft rubber cover Shimano style. :)

Eh? What hard plastic hoods? Those hoods are soft rubber - why would you think they aren't? If you don't even know that then it probably explains why you've wrecked a Bianchi by putting an ugly groupset on it!

My veloce hoods feel just like the Super Record ones...both are soft rubber and countoured very nicely.
