Any recommendations? Currently using BBC but as UKIP appear to have taken control of our national broadcaster overnight I'd prefer something a tad more reliable.

The BBC app is a good one and it's the one I use, but they get their data from the Met Office and they have their own app too.

IME none are particularly reliable in fact they might as well not bother publishing forecasts for more than 48 hours ahead as it's just guesswork unless it's a fairly major event. Only 24 hours out can you consider it relatively reliable.

I find weather pro very accurate, doesn't always reflect what the others say, but usually right. Not free however. I like it so much, bought the ipad version too.

BBC weather app for me, although I find the 4-5 day weather always turns out to be better than they forecast! I think its called piss pooor pessimistic precipitation forecasting.

I use BBC weather app for a general forecast, but if it says showers, then it'll probably be mostly sunny- they're pretty pessimistic like that! :)

But on the day, nothing beats RainToday.
    http://raintoday.co.uk/

It's a radar map of rainfall over the UK for the last couple of hours- having a look at that in the hour before you go out will let you know if it's going to get soggy or not very accurately.

Weather Pro from the Meteo Group is the best. The app is free on Android but the £3.99 12 month subscription is well worth it for the extra goodies across there platform.
Tried all of them and found they have the best long and short term forecasts.

I found BBC weather was inaccurate sometimes or slow to update. Forcasts of torrential rain were usually drizzle or something. You also dont get any detailed information or radar etc.

http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ is also part of the same group and I use this for a more accurate rain radar.

If you haven't already found it, check out "what to wear cycling" https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/what-to ... 07853?mt=8

It'll not only tell you the weather, but also a handy list of what to wear from head to feet, and I've found it to be pretty accurate too.
  • Wish i was a weather man! Doesn't matter how crop you are at your job you still get paid and can be just as bad the next day.

BBC and Met office apps are so often wrong for me it winds me right up and amazes me how they can be so rubbish at a 3-4 hour forecast!

Even last night they were saying it's going to rain all day today, and yet it's a nice day! Now they are saying it won't rain until 5pm.

At least with the BBC they are very pessimistic so if they are saying rain 3 days out take it as "It might rain" and if they are saying sunshine then it almost certainly won't rain!

Dont' even bother with forecasts, they're all guesswork, you may as well roll a dice. I have the Met Office app which said at 2pm yesterday there was no rain forecast until Wednesday - it absolutely poured down last night for about 3hours.... I suspect most weather forecasts are based on data provided by the Met Office (the BBC one definitely is) but probably less up-to-date than getting it direct from the Met Office.

Get the rain-alarm app that others have mentioned - this gives you radar pictures of rainfall over the last 2hours so you can see where any rain is, how heavy it is, which direction its heading and how fast its moving - no use for planning rides later in the week, but will tell you if you need to take your waterproofs or not for the ride you're just setting out on! It also covers most of Europe if you're taking your bike on your jollies!!

Alot of forecasts use the same data, from the ECMWF, in Reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_C ... _Forecasts

The Met Office blend this with their own analysis: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/services/accuracy

This is why so many forecasts are so similar, because they all use the same base data and just fiddle with it a bit...

The forecast at the moment is especially depressing. Basically saying rain is set in for the rest of the week, and at the weekend too :(. This is supposed to be the time of year when I'm upping my milage and pace considerably, but the weather isn't cooperating.

When in doubt look at several forecasts until you get to one you like.

Can't think why I keep getting soaked through

Weather Underground is good. Crowd sourced in part, so locally accurate.
  • I find the Weather Channel iPhone app to be the most reliable.

The Met office app is good, seems pretty accurate, but has adverts on it, they want £1.99 off me to remove the ads. Yeah sure, just take it out of the taxes that I've already paid! Robbing swines.
  • I use google, just type weather London (just change London to your city or post code)

I have been using this for two years in UK and I found it very accurate.

I also check raintoday.co.uk if I need more accuracy about rain.
