New front derailleur

You're chain must run very close to the tyre when in the granny ring. Have you got the bottom limit screw set right?
Is it possible that you have assembled the rear hub incorrectly and ended up with the wheel offset or crooked?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Out of interest, rubez, what width is the rear tyre and how much clearance is there between the chain stays and the tyre?“Life has been unfaithful

Chain stay?
I will need to check it all and set it up properly now that I have a bike stand - having to do this particular job upside was a killer.
Tyres are Magic Mary's... there seems to be different variations of them, but they are pretty beefy.
Mech was lightly grazing the tyre in a certain gear (can't remember which) also, the stop-limits weren't set final. Plus don't know if on the road, under weight, it will rub worse or what... and tyres are brand new so that doesn't help the rubbing.0 -
2.35" tires are probably your problem not the derailleur.0

My new FD is slightly smaller. May well make the difference.0

Magic Mary's are huge. No wonder your FD is rubbing the tyre. You have a cheap bike designed around narrowish tyres. Putting the MM's on is stupid. There will be next-to-no clearance and rear wheel will clog up with mud very quickly if you ride in anything sticky.“Life has been unfaithful

But the magic Mary's aren't wonky, which makes everything alright...0
