yes, usage requires the passage of a body part through the device - in one end and out the other

I have nothing useful to guess, so I'm just summarising what we know.

"it's a tool with a specific function, typically requires two hands to use it, only takes a few minutes to learn usage. Typically would be used at home, it is designed to perform one function, involving a human and specific object, not for cleaning, wiping, rubbing, buffing, sieving, polishing, warming, fluffing, filtering, drying, nothing to do with cushioning or musical instruments, it is not clothing, but it is clothing related.
It does not perform the inverse of it's intended function, can be of use to people who have such an injury [broken hips], but not restricted to them by any means, its five letter name, which is a trade mark, succinctly states its function. It's used for a just a few minutes maybe once a day, usage requires the passage of a body part through the device - in one end and out the other."

    Hasn't helped me at all.

Don't forget that it's white, fluffy, a bit bigger than a dvd case and looks like a bicycle saddle 8)

I still think that it's a filter

I think you must be dangerously close with that suggestion. I'm saying nothing cos I don't want to have to find and post a picture...

Following on from Bass' guess. A shot in the dark then. Is it a lining that an amputee put over their leg stump before strapping on a prosthetic leg?

yes, it's a soxon™, hospital gave it to me after i broke my hip, only needed it a week or two then i got flexible enough to do without

tapes are tucked underneath it, just to make life hard for object-guessing cake stoppers, if you think that's cruel of me, at least you didn't need to use a soxon™ :)
