Appreciate it's late in the season to be starting a turbo training programme, but needs must.
Please help motivate me with your tales of weightloss and great fitness gains.

Have you searched the forum for older threads? Lots of the others threads contain details of people's experiences.0

Thanks for that.
Lots of threads with folks offering advice, but not so much (easily) found with people saying I achieved X result.

Use Trainerroad. It works.0

Second trainer road. I've scratched the surface with it over the past few months, and already I have seen steady improvements.0

I managed to drop from 86kg t the current 78kg, mostly thanks to HIIT on the turbo trainer.
I don't use any TT specific training program. I setup a training routine on my Android phone using Impetus, usually consisting of a few minutes of warm up, followed by HIIT/Tabata, followed by a few minutes at a slower pace.
While I ride I listen to some music that I prepare accordingly to the rhythm of the training.0 -
A number of years ago I was riding a turbo trainer with a very light resistance. The rear wheel became loose whilst I was riding so I quickly jumped off lent over the wheel to tighten it and managed to burn my leg on the still rotating tyre. Only person to get what looked like road rash whilst riding a turbo- some achievement!0

I increased my FTP by about 30% over 4 months or so with trainerroad. No weightloss though - I guess I have to cut down the eating dammit !0
-
I increased my FTP by about 3000% over 2 months or so with trainerroad.
It's Virtual Power though so didn't actually translate to any improvement on the road.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
I've increased my ftp by around 15% using TrainerRoad and it's translated to around 1 mph faster average speed on the road. I've been doing the low volume 40k TT plan, but switched to the 8 Days Tour they're running currently.
This is my first year of serious training though and I would expect to make fairly large gains at the moment. I've managed to lose 10kg in the same time.
The turbo appeals to me because I can fit it in around my shift pattern.
I'm just trying to convince the wife I need a Wahoo Kickr for training over the winter.0 -
Well, I've been using TrainerRoad more or less since I started cycling, aand I've found it great both as a motivational tool and for recording my progress. So here goes with some numbers from me (FTP is based on virtual power using a Kurt Kinetic turbo and the TR software - for me, the absolute power isn't important, it's the changes) -
Date...........FTP.............Wt (lb)
Sep 2012......176w............212
Mar 2013......211w............201
Mar 2014......227w............192
Hope that helps the OP.
Cheers,
MarkPBoardman Road Comp - OK, I went to Halfords
Tibia plateau fracture - the rehab continues!0 -
What the past two posters said - 17% increase in FTP after 1 period of "Novice Race" for me, works around my work /family patterns and structures my training very nicely indeed.
The thing I got reminded of and applied is not to forget to go out riding on the road. I also wish there were a way to add those rides to Trainer Road's "career" also for data purposes.0 -

But it would translate though wouldn't it ?
OK - the virtual power might not correlate with watts - but if VP increases then your real power would have done.0 -
Turbo trainer success story? Spring arrived, the clocks went forward and I packed away the turbo until next Winter. Success!0

Getting quite hot here in the UAE. I have to be up at 4am to get a good ride before the heat is unbearable. Apart from the heat, one could do with some quality training instead of just going out for a ride (sometimes need that). I might as well give TrainerRoad a go.0
