Armagh - now there's a place. I spent 4 years there (Bessbrook Mill & the towers); some fond (and not so fond) memories.

Any chance of echelons today as the wind is from the west and the route heads south?

What a shame the weather has been what it has for this, you could just about make out the scener would be beautiful in good weather but it looked pretty grim yesterday.

Tjallingii just needs 1 point to be sure of holding on to the Maglia Azzurra (KoM) jersey. With the points coming quite early on he has every chance without needing to be in the break for the whole stage.

The first break of the day: Tjallingii (BEL) - not unexpectedly given the climbs coming early - with Godoy (AND), Rubiano (COL) and Dockx (LTB).
40 secs back is Cecchinel (NRI) trying to bridge, then at 3 mins already, the peloton.

Cecchinel successfully bridged to leading 4, and gap of the break of 5 has now increased to 5-40 (after 20 kms).

The break now at 65 km, about halfway between the second climb and the intermediate sprint; the peloton has closed the gap slightly, to about 5-20.
Tjallingii (BEL) took the first climb points.

Tjallingii won both KOMs and the intermediate sprint.

Living in roughly the same part of the world, it's funny that I'm less interested in the scenery on this occasion than I will be when they do the laps in Bari. A lot of cycling's appeal is seeing totally new places. The familiar (even if just the type of terrain) in the rain has a bit less appeal!

Big crash, Scarponi down, Peloton eased up.

    Weather is appalling.

Could say the same about Italy in last year's Giro!

For some reason I always seem to think that Scarponi has been sanctioned and I'm surprised to see him riding.

Great PR move sending Deignan back to the car with the team's laundry.

Dont think any GT is coming back to this country any time soon. Road furniture and rain the whole time doesnt make for any positives. Several more crashes and GC teams riding the front to keep out of trouble.

Just got back from walking the dog in Richmond Park. Giro seems about the same pace as riders in the Park....

I reckon they are going slow now as the roads are dangerous and poor and they have had enough.
