Pain in the neck...

Let me preface this by saying I am a new convert to the ways of the road, having only started riding one mid-January on a crappy second hand bike.
I've spent a lot of time and have the bike set up comfortably, however I've noticed on longer rides my neck starts to get sore. It's fine up to say 70 miles, and then just starts to ache progressively more. I did 90 miles the other week and my neck hurt more than my legs. It wasn't ride-ending but certainly distracting. I want to break that 100 mile mark soon so want to nip it in the bud.
Nowhere else hurts, shoulders arms etc are fine, just the back of my neck so I'm hoping it's just getting used to the new position. I'm also wondering if it's because I wear my normal glasses and have to look up a bit higher to see through them properly. Is this just part of the breaking in process? Are there any exercises I should be doing with my neck? Should I get contacts or will prescription cycling glasses fix this problem?
