Apparently all the top 3 broke the record for ascending Mur De Huy.

Watching Valverde power past Martin just when I thought Martin had enough of a gap to win made me think of this

I would imagine that had a lot to do with the high speed going into it - the momentum was incredible

Getting to watch mid-week pro racing has a lovely decadence to it - right up there with slipping into the cinema with a beer to watch an afternoon showing of A Bridge Too Far...

“They say you have to learn how to race it, this last climb,” said Martin. “Every year I get a little bit better. … This year it was just flat out the whole way up. Alejandro was the strongest today. With 100 meters to go I definitely thought I had it, but he blew past.”

“I think I little bit surprised myself, you know? Flèche is the race that doesn’t really suit me,” said Kwiatkowski. “I think Amstel and Liège suit me well. I could recover well from Amstel. … I’m really happy with what I did today.”

Sorry Valverde haters but he wins. Again.

It's his first World Tour win since his suspension. (Excluding stages)

So what. Deny all your like, his palmares, reputation and bank balance are all laughing.

My boys all making it rain this year and the fans are loving it.

Why is it you make fun of a team for having a big bank balance, but praise individual cheaters?

Valverde took the race the same way as Gilbert did on sunday, waiting for the right time to attack and then powering away.Good performance.

    ^ 2 up now ...

SKY are only interesting to some of you lot as they are 'British' ... FF's favourites are just plain interesting (in both good and bad ways) ...

Still a bit of a worry for a grown man to idolise a sportsman so much that he'll even defend how he dresses off the bike tho' ... Oh wait, there's a whole thread to itself about that for another rider too ...

That's not quite true is it? What actually happened is Valverde waited until Martin found the right time to attack, then he followed him, then he nipped past him before the line

He played it perfectly and won, but it wasn't quite the same as Gilbert's ride on Sunday.

I believe the technical term for that style of win is called 'tucking your neck in' ...

Nitt picking,Gilbert came from behind 3 riders who were on the front.Did they get there by chance or had 1 or more made some sort of attack.

They had actually responded to an early decoy attack by one of Gilbert's teammates (Sanchez)

  • A good ride from Dan Martin. He appears to be coming to the boil nicely for the Giro.

  • Betancur can't decide if he is any good or not ....Ag2R got plenty of other climbing talent. I don't get him in this punchy team -

I think Betancur is doing just fine and AG2R are lucky to have him. Check out his results this season already.

Pretty good results as a team - a full 6 of them coming in better than the best placed sky rider.

Must have been the English contingent.

I always remember standing at the top of the hill of that Anncey TT and cheering Contador wildly. The English contingent next to me could not believe I wasnt cheering for Wiggins simply because I was English. I had the last laugh of course.

Valverde not very popular generally. Bert is fairly popular.
