I'm assuming that's in reply to him ordering a new stem and bars..

It could be a 1.5" steerer or 1.125" depending on the bike.
1.5" isn't just for dh bikes, canondale have 1.5" on most bikes.

A picture speaks a thousand words, rubez.
A couple of pix of your stem / steerer / bars might help people to understand what you are trying to do and they may then offer suitable advice.

I expect one of the first questions then will be ' how do I remove the sparkly tassels from my old bars and fit to the new' :D

    So the time has come...

I can't get the handlebars to preload (so the spacers can't be turned by hand) with any combination of spacers.

    What am I doing wrong?!

I have 3x10mm, 1x25mm, 1x5mm & 1x3mm spacers. Tried all combinations as far as I can see, handlebars still shaky and spacers are able to be moved by hand when tightened up.

    Any input?

    Thanks.

You can’t post a thread as obvious as the pedal pins one, and then try to carry on. Is this even fun for you anymore?

You need to show us a photo of the setup. A) to prove you actually own a bike and B) whatever anyone tells you to do, which is all on Parktools, you won't

Probably stuck because no one has mentioned Parktools. Have they?

Found the problem, don't like the bars though, they are monstrous, so I am sending them back and buying a new Easton stem to fit my old bars... I can get the Easton to preload with 25mm spacers now.

    £50.

Is it possible to tighten them stem too much so the handlebars become hard too turn?

Oh, you want money for them?

Over tighten the stem, No. Might snap the stem bolts though
Over tighten the Topcap, Maybe. But if it's so tight you can't turn the bars, I'd recommend buying some new bars

Yes you can preload the headset so it is hard to turn, I usually do that on new assemblies (NOT to an extreme) before backing off the preload as it reduces the chance something hasn't fitted 'snugly'.
