ANT+ Alternative

Guys and girls. I have travelled away on business with my Garmin HRM (that came with my 510) however made a fatal mistake of forgetting my ANT+ dongle. I am trying to connect to Stava/TP/Garmin Fit but unable to pair obviously due to the lack of ANT+. For the Tech Guru's out there; is there anyway that I can connect the HRM to my mobile Strava app without the dongle?

Before anyone asks, my location means I don't have the ability to go ahead and purchase or ship out a dongle..... any tips?

Your post is confusing. When you can "enable", do you mean "unable"?

Also, you state that you forgot your Ant+ dongle yet you are asking if there is any you can connect the HRM with the dongle.

If your phone does not support Ant+ and you do not have your dongle and you can not purchase a dongle and your HRM only outputs Ant+ then the answer to your question is "No"

My apologies - long day in front of the laptop. I have edited my post as above....... hope this clarifies.

The answer is still "NO" unfortunately.

For the HRM to talk to a recording device such as a phone or a Garmin Edge it needs to communicate over a protocol which both devices are capable of using (the HRM to transmit; the Edge/Phone to receive). If the two devices do not share a protocol then they cannot communicate.

Dongles such as the one you have (but not currently in your possession) are used to enable a receiving device to receive the protocol the transmitting device uses.

The Garmin HRM only transmits ANT+. I think the Samsung S4 (and probably S5) are the only phones that can receive Ant+ without a dongle. The iPhone (4 onwards) can receive bluetooth but not Ant+.

Some other companies (Wahoo for example) provide HRM capable of bluetooth transmission (and their new one does both Ant+ and bluetooth) which would work with an iphone without the need for a dongle.

Some of the Sony phones also have native Ant+, however I'm assuming your phone doesn't have it built-in or you wouldn't have purchased a dongle. Unless you have an ant+ dongle, or your phone has an internal ant+ chip, the only hr strap that might work with your phone is a bluetooth one.
