Pain in left quad

Hi all,
For the last several months i have been experiencing a pain in my left quad, mainly when i am out of the saddle & pushing hard. I can only explain it as like someone putting a tourniquet around it, as it feels like there is no blood getting to the muscle & a sharp pain over the whole quad. The quad feels a little less "lively" than the right when pushing reasonably hard whenever it is exerted.
