With this mentality we'd all be riding round on £300 steelys because we haven't earned the right to ride a decent bike!

    l do that 8)

Why would you pay $100 for a cycling shirt with team logos when you can get a plain one for $20? In fact, the best I've managed was $5 when one of my LBS online shops had a special on. Got 3 for $15 in a nice simple blue with no stupid logos.

I don't wear team kit because I'm just not that into pro cycling, but if I was I'd wear it.

    +1 to this!

if i was only allowed to wear what I had 'earned' it would be quite indecent and i'd almost definitely get arrested!

Wearing Pro team kit is also questionable if you’re not paid to wear it. If you must fly the colors of Pro teams, all garments should match perfectly, i.e no Mapei jersey with Kelme shorts and Telekom socks.

It was plainly obvious I wasn't posh enough for them. Reminded me of that Audi ad and the golf club "Vorsprung Durch Technik, as non-members say".
    10 years ago, eh?
Pinerello, I'm in Cheltenham and an active member of the club. I assure you that it's not posh and is indeed very
inclusive. Since we introduced different locations to our rides about 3- 4 years ago membership has flourished.
It's got to the point of some of the groups (16 mph group, 18 mph group not so much in the 14 mph and 20 mph groups) get split into two and go to different destinations to avoid arriving en-masse at establishments.

If you felt your welcome by the club was less than enthusiastic then that's unfortunate and a one-off. I've not heard
of members mentioning you. If you're over here give it another try. I'll be your ride buddy to ease you in.

Only problem I have is when someone is wearing a yellow, polka dot etc jersey. Its kind of like walking around with someone else's Olympic gold medal on.
You're absolutely right there, I saw a bloke out in a polka dot jersey and thought fook me it's Richard Virenque, only it wasn't, it was some fat bloke from Doncaster. I felt cheated, enraged and disgusted. :D

In hindsight, I think you have more than one problem.

Yes, but nobody has ever earned a right to wear a WC jersey outside of competitive racing. It's like earning the right to carry number 1 if you win the F1 World Championship. That doesn't mean that Darren down the road can't put a number one on his Saxo!

It doesn't but every bugger will be laughing at him

Yeah, I do, all the time. Had a Mapei top on today.

Really want an Europcar jersey and go gurning like Tommy, and a bright pink ONCE jersey is on the list, too. 8)
  • I wear a full zipvit kit, just because I like it. Even thinking of getting the arm earners leg earners and the gilet! Hehe

All very confusing so let's see if I've understood so far..

Can't wear pro kit in case someone thinks you're a pro.
Can't ride a Pinarello in case someone thinks you're a dentist
Can't ride a bike in pro colours
Can't wear Rapha because some folks don't like the company
Can't go anywhere near a piece of Sky kit for fear of an internet meltdown
Can't wear Assos because it's expensive and some folks can't afford it..
    Always obey the rules.

Yeah cycling is an inclusive sport..

I also want to know what people think of the new Cavendish range of Specialized clothing. Personally I'd treat it the same as team outfits.

Expensive and the helmet will be a bit hot. I'd treat it same as team outfits too, wear it if you want to.

Wear what you want with certain limitations:

    1. World Champion stripes; not unless you are or have been one. (Todays Rutland Melton Cicle Classic, you know who you are.)
    2. KOM; if you clearly can't get up a hill leaving everyone else in your wake, then no unless you want the piss ripping out of you.
    3. Tour winner; No, no, no ,no, no.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

It's quite simple, wear whatever you like. It doesn't matter one jot. You don't have to care that a lot of other cyclists might well think you look like a dick, and there's nothing you can do about that. Subject over.

Oh, I was having such a nice ride yesterday but then philthy3 gave me a really hard stare and I realised that I had commited a terrible faux pas - I was wearing WC stripes! OMG!!!!

I rode sky kit off eBay when I first started cycling and knew very little about it. I didn't watch pro races, but since I've got into it, I feel like the pros have earned their kit so i shouldn't wear it. I do own an almost full set of Mapei Kit. But that's just awesome.

My wife bought me a new Kask Mojito, it has world champ stripes on it. It doesn't bother me one jot. I was telling her that some people would think it wrong and she laughed like a drain. She already thinks middle aged men riding around in lycra a little sad, that did nothing to improve her opinion.
