I’ve had a pair of the eBay glasses as above but with a different name on them. A lot of eBayers are selling the same frame, in different colours and branding.

I brought them from a UK seller to get them quick, but in the end they were actually sent from China and took over a week to arrive. Fortunately no duty to pay. So try another seller from China or Hong Kong if you have problems with a UK supplier.

Made the mistake of buying a pair without polarized lenses, so make sure you order the correct ones.

The insert is positioned close to your eye and when I first tried them on, my eye lashes were touching the bottom of the insert frame when I blinked. The nose piece is rubber coated metal and has lots of adjustment, so I was able to adjust them further away from my face. The insert doesn’t come with any plain lenses, so was still not sure if my eye lashes would still rub against the insert lenses. I didn’t want to pay for lenses if this was going to be the problem, so I found an old pair of glasses, took the lenses out and carefully filed and sanded them down to fit.

Tried them out for the first time today. Very windy, so a good test and they are huge difference to my normal glasses. Eyes are very well protected from the wind now, wish I had brought some years ago. The top of the frame is higher so you don’t look over the frame when your heads down and the clear rimmed insert edges aren’t noticeable and out of line of sight. I did a 35mile 3hour ride and they stayed firmly in place throughout the ride, didn’t have to touch them and no irritations.

I can’t comment on the quality of the sunglass lenses, as my old prescription lenses were fuzzy.

So overall very please with them and will get the inserts done with my new prescription now. I will also order another pair with a different colour frame to get the polarized lenses.
  • Brilliant Brynd really helpful!

PS- Filing down old lenses to fit I am v impressed!

I just bought Cebe Cinetik with vario performance lenses (transitions type thingy) with spare clear lens too. Cost £60ish plus about the same for glazing on insert. Impressed with them. Suspect I could have had glazing done cheaper if I'd shopped around but needed them and took them Vision Express. Impressed with them

Alternatively you could have just blu taked the lenses in like I did. Much less hassle and it really does work. If you think about it there's very little stress on the lenses to shake then free even on rough roads. The wind doesn't get to them either because the outer lens protects them.

Sounds bad but it really is a good way of doing it.
  • well I ordered these today

£13 and claims to be UK based and Royal Mail 1st Class arriving on Tuesday - must be worth a punt if that's true! If anyone's interested I'll post how they are once I get them and then once I get them glazed?
  • Also try Snowbee Prestige Magnifier sunglasses. I use them when I am fly fishing allows me to tie hooks on ............ and now read my Garmin.

Try Sunwise. Relatively cheap and only have two models but do the trick and the one's I bought came with three interchangeable lenses. Mine are the Montreal.

Yes please I am still looking to get some.
  • Will do they are supposed to arrive today got an email from seller that they have been dispatched.
  • well mine arrived today - one day after the estimate but the estimate was ridiculously over optimistic! These are genuine UK stock and arrived Royal Mail 1st class tracked.

Brynd's comments above are spot on - but - I cannot get the nose piece to adjust so my eyelashes don't brush on the prescription insert. If I squeeze them in to make the glasses sit away from my face they sit too high if I open them up my lashes brush the insert. I think it's down to how curved the front profile is and the insert is flatter so it can't follow the same contour as the lens and sit away from your eyes. May try again later but fed up with them now as otherwise they are really really nice. Good size - I have a big head, I take a large Giro helmet but not at full size on the adjustors though. The lenses are nice, the hard case is great - wish I could get them to work for me!

Curse my long luscious eyelashes; all those years as a sultry seducer are coming back to haunt me :D

You'll have to snip your eyelashes!

Is there a way to bend the arms so that they have a longer shaft before they start to bend around the ear. Opticians have a special machine that heat the arms up to make them more pliable - you could try the steam from a kettle?
  • Good suggestion, might try that later but the front has a pronounce curve and the legs are short so not sure if it would make much difference.

So I'll have to see if can get to try some on somehow

OK you guys will be getting sick of pushing my Blu Tak option, but just thought I'd share some pictures. I bought the '5 lens' glasses from a UK seller on Ebay for £25. Ran them as was for a year (with my Blu Tak inserts) with no issues. They came with yellow ear socks and nose piece so this year I bought the official Oakley black ones from CRC for £9. Went on no problem and are much better than the Chinese ones. I also bought a green iridium Walleva lens from Ebay for £20, purely for the look. The supplied lenses seem fine to me but wanted a green iridium.

Here are some pics of the glasses and one of me wearing them. No issues with my eye lashes hitting them, no need to grind down the inserts and almost 2 years use with no signs of them falling out!

Have you tried bending the nose piece away from the frame so instead of pointing straight down the nose piece is pointing out towards your nose at 45 degrees?

Not in the slightest it's really helpful to see the pic it's not what I had imagined, much more secure looking than what I had pictured. I do have pair of spare specs which are not bad for distance view which I want to get reglazed as varifocals so I could maybe try this with those lenses once I do that.

Yeh I tried that but my lashes then catch the nose piece itself - I was thinking I might trim down the nose piece so that only the bit that covers the metal is left on it i.e cut off the broader flap bit there's no metal in.

Thanks for the tips to both and I will persevere for a while before I give up on these. It really is a bummer as otherwise I think these are great.

Dazza your probably wise as I have struggled with a few pairs of cycling glasses being too small and these are a nice fit for me (except for the insert issue) so I couldn't imagine them working for you.

Ah, brilliant, I'd been wondering how exactly to blu tak lenses in, pics make it much clearer. I reckon I'm gonna give that a go myself.
  • What a great idea Mitch.... Tell me does this work on any sunglasses?

I suppose it would work on any sunglasses where there's enough of a lip to allow you to stick the lenses on. All you need is a small strip of blu tak along the top of the lens and enough surface to stick it too. Would certainly work on most cycling style sunglasses I'd reckon.

I have a pair of glasses with my last prescription lenses in I could take out those lenses and try them in specsavers or a specialist cycle shop then look online if your theory is accurate. :P

I'm long sighted so can see fine for distance, but can't read my Garmin or anything else close, so I was introduced to these a few years ago, I have them on all my sun glasses and have spares as well.

Absolutely perfect and a lovely cheap solution if you have 6/7 pairs of sunglasses/lenses.

After being recommended earlier in this thread (thanks johnboy 183) i bought Cebe Cinetic from spex4less.
    http://www.spex4less.com/acatalog/Cinetik_Sports_Glasses.html
Nice light comfortable frames & the insert has it's own adjustable nose-piece so not interfering with lashes.
All for £78 including my prescription in the insert & only took 3 days to arrive so well pleased :D

i reckon if you just curled your eyelashes it would be enough :D
  • Most independant opticians should be able to supply lenses for not too much £30-40. It depends on Rx though if your are some who regularly has to pay more for lenses then you will know who you are from past experience. You can get cycling specs complete with lenses for £80 .
