As said earlier - the issue only arises when too many people try to use a limited resource. At which point you either put up with it, aim to use it at a time when it's not so busy or petition for a control over that resource in the vain hope that you'll get to use it how you want to use it and when you want to.
Richmond Park is a nice open green space that is a pleasure to use when it's not busy - I can't believe I lived next to it for 3 years and never really bothered going in there - actually, yes I can, I came in from the countryside - it's all built up around there ... it's nicer getting out of London completely - as I have done ..
For the parks? Bare in mind, public transport to Richmond Park is fairly woeful, cars are clearly how most will access the park. Clearly the park aren't keen on excessive rat running hence Robin Hood gates being closed.
Making it difficult to access is unlikely, the impression is if anything bikes are seen as more of a problem, though commercial dog walkers are top of the list at moment.0 -
The park should be a park and a park for all...yes. The problem is that 90% of the cars are not using the place as a park, they're using it as a shortcut/ring road0

My suggestion if bans absolutely had to be on the table would be bike-free Saturday, car-free Sunday, open to all weekdays.
My personal favourite time is 4-5 laps on Friday afternoon after early knock-off, followed by cruise home through central London. Decent number out there but no hordes."Consider the grebe..."0 -

Do you like shared paths? Know what cobblers walk in Bushy Park is like on the weekend? That's what Richmond park would become. Cars keep walkers and dogs etc on Tasmin trail.
It was a bad idea a few years back and still is to be honest, and frankly it's a big busy park you have to share for roadie that means sharing with cars and realising you may need to slow at times etc.Asprilla wrote:Make it a toll road. If you spend less than 30 minutes in the park then you pay. Means that people making use of the park as a recreational facility don't get punished, only the rat runners.
Not that I've ridden in Richmond Park since I was a kid...I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0
