Apologies if this has already been posted, but I haven't seen anything. (And yes, it's a shameless plug, sue me.):

I predict this will sell like hotcakes. Given how cheap 6800 is, it will be interesting to see how much you'll save.

    Thanks for,posting.

If it's at that stage already, then I guess we can expect to see it next year: cheap 11 speed for everyone!

I wonder if it might even be available late 2014. Although Shimano have been very quiet about it, so perhaps not.

I would expect an announcement this summer. But are you sure that's 105? The crank looks Ultegra.

A quick google on Shimano 5800 105 turned up this:

    interesting...

The shiny/matte portions are arranged differently. Compare:

    6800-Crank.jpg

Also, the shifters look different, and the parts are in colours that Ultegra doesn't exist in.

5xxx series is 105 (Ultegra is 6xxx) - and it even says 105 at the top of the page in the pic. So yes, it's 105.

I assumed he was suggesting it might be doctored. Obviously it says 105 all over the shop. :)

I have had Shimano too, but the STI levers have always been under designed... fraying cables, skipping ratchets, not serviceable and that silly mamil friendly design has put me off their levers... I am happy to run every other Shimano component though...
When Dura Ace 7400 came out it was a light year ahead of Campagnolo counter part... it was just awesome... but in time they lost that edge and became more disposable

You should have a play with some 6800 shifters, things have moved on a bit, they really are very good indeed.

When they were new, my 5600 STI were great, but didn't stay great for long. I have learnt to disassemble an Ergo lever, which is one of the reasons to stick to Campag. for that bit
I'd probably run a 6800 groupset with Chorus Ergos, but I've got no money for these things

There was a BikeRadar 105 5800 article up over the weekend (was a good read) but seems to have been pulled. Did someone post it early?

I saw it on the mobile site

Was a bit about there being 105 hydro disks too

There are both 105 and non-series Sti's that have cabled gears and hydro brakes. All expected mid summer or thereabouts.

Again not sure about the chainset photo. It looks like someone has taken 6800 chainset and photoshopped 105 onto it as it's otherwise completely identical.

Look completely different to me - Ultegra 6800 chainset has 1 'ridge' line along it, with a neat swooping curve - the 5800 one has a central raised section. The edge into the 'missing' arm is more rounded on 5800 as well.

Totally different castings from the photos.

Hmm fair play then. It does make sense that the line of chainsets would be of a similar design. It's just that in the past the different groupsets have had a particular look.

I have to say this kind of interests me. Currently running a Sora setup, and I think if I was going to upgrade a 105 would be where I'd go.

9 speed to 11 speed would be pretty cool as well.

I deliberately chose RS80 wheels to stop me buying 11 speed, but then again it's not like my 10 speed is going to stop working..

I'm happy with 9 speed, it works well and doesn't cause me any headaches. So I just hope that 105 going 11 speed doesn't mean that we lose 9 speed at the bottom end, as it will be harder to find new 9 speed components. :(

Bikeradar article is still in googles cache, and a quick search will find the link on other bike forums. Not posting it here but it's extremely easy to find.
I'm interested in the new groupset, but concerned that an 11 speed drivetrain will wear faster than 10 speed and therefore maybe not the best for commuting on, which is the majority of my mileage.

Gosh, my 7 speed setup is going to look even more out dated. Now I really like that...its so retro :P :D:lol:

(I know it is 8 speed) Hopefully Claris shows that Shimano still have some interest in sensible groupsets.

It'll be harder to find higher-end 8 and 9 speed stuff - but there still seems to be plenty of support within the lower-end - so cassettes and chains should be easy to get for a long time yet.

Chainrings - 8/9/10 speed will all work - so no worries there.

Mechs - they generally don't care.

Shifters - that's where the real hassle is - wear out or damage your shifters, and that will become harder to source replacements over time.

We've a couple of 9 speed bikes in the fleet - doesn't overly stress me out to find spares.

    Skipping ratchets?
I upgraded my wifes Allez from Shimano 2300 to 105 5700 with some second hand 105 shifters, 105 rear derailleur and a 10sp cassette as it was using it as my winter bike.

Can i get it indexed right?! Nope!

Keep shifting up and it clicks, changes up a gear, fine....try it again to upshift once and i change up and its "click, click" like i'm over moving the lever for 1 upshift and trying to change up 2 gears (but i''m not moving it for 2 upshifts, the 2 index points on the shifter just seem really, really close sometimes!) ....press the down shift smaller lever to align the rear derailluer correctly and everything is ok, quiet smooth running.

Changed all the inners and outers for new, lubed etc.

Never had problem indexing the Shim 2300, SRAM Rival, Campag Veloce 9sp or my DA9000 (DA9000 is night and day better as you would expect).

Ever heard of this issue before?
    Cheers, Stu

Doubtful, 105 11 speed has been predicted for some time and it would make sense and fit in with the usual Shimano release schedule. If it's an April fool it wouldn't be a very amusing one.
