Just watched it.
You complained that the signage was useless.
He complained that you had complained about how far around you had to go.

I'm expecting an excellent donation from you since I'm clearly going to be putting myself through extreme pain and discomfort on the day
I do agree that I have more than a passing resemblance to Daddy Pig (Peppa Pig) in that screengrab. Due to the unique way the BBC is funded, I can't watch the programme I appear in on iPlayer.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Absolutely bloody right. Somebody (a lawyer in fact) on another forum linked me to Ofcom's privacy page. In that it talks about distress caused. I'm going to be in therapy for years after you lot have taken the pi55 all day

Did your lid fit properly - it didn't look like it from that picture ... looked like it was perched on top of your head ... a bit like a dead tortoise (there you go - add that to the therapy sessions )0

Thought it was you, saw it on iPlayer last night. I thought the guys remarks about "having" to encourage cyclists were a bit off, he clearly wasn't a lover of those on two wheels.
I'd have liked it if they'd mentioned the LEJOG guys who basically have to cycle on the A9 because some of the cycle paths are unusable. I tried to get something done two years ago about the Drumochter one but not much has happened yet.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

You aren't going to encourage cyclists if you put an 8% hill into the detour. Even I got bored of attacking it (though "Daddy Pig" did hold the KoM for a month or two - despite winding up the racing snakes on Strava).
As for LEJOG guys - the sign posting was so poor that loads of times I saw them, packed up with panniers, crawling up the bridge in the single road lane available for traffic with massive queues forming behind them.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I was pleased to see this saga get a bit of air time. The diversion was so long and with such gradients as to be completely impractical for general use, resulting in commuting walkers and cyclists taking a risky dash twice a dayacross a carriageway with nose to tail traffic. The diversion signing requirements had been drawn up from a map and the contractors had dropped off the appropriate road signs at the places indicated on the map but without any thought to the practicalities. Unfortunately the map used at the design stage was out of date due to some road realignments that taken place several years previously making the diversion signing confusing for locals and well nigh impossible for tourists to follow. The trunk roads authority was informed of the error within days but chose to take no remedial action but later complaiined about the high volume of complaints they had received from the public. When it was pointed out that if remedial actins had been carried out on receipt of the initial complaints there would have been fewer complaints, the distance from Glasgow was given as the reason for inaction. Many of the signs were blown over and remained flat on the ground for the duration of the contract. The guy on the right claimed that the signs were checked regularly, but when it was pointed out that the signs had lain on the ground so long that the vegetation was dead underneath them he had no answers. There were also hazards for cyclists due to two lanes tapering into one lane, with dangeous overtaking by motor vehicles being the order of the day. There was in fact no diversion for cyclists using the A9, only for cyclists using the NCN1. There were also contradictions in signing with instructions to turn left, and turn right, on signs within few metres of each other. One engineer did take a run along the route and agreed there were discrepancies in the signing but still nothing was done to remedy the situation until a couple of weeks before the end of works. People who complained about the signing were told to refer to a website if they couldn't follow the signing. Unfortunately the same out of date map was replicated on the website, and the reproduction was of such poor quality as to be all but illegible.
At the start of Phase 2 of the works the first sign the cyclist sees on approach to the works reads End of Diversion. The sign is on the wrong side of the road!
As both a driver and cyclist I have never before seen such a diabolical shambles at any road works anywhere, well done for getting involved.0 -
Well I got a response from the BBC (actually from the programme maker).
They claim I didn't ask filming to stop after I was made aware of the film crew and their purpose.
They also claim they didn't have any contact details to which to send a release form.
Both these points are inaccurate. On the first point, I had no idea that it was a TV film crew (and not part of Balfour Beatty) until I was about to leave and I was chased by a member of the crew to get me to sign a release.
I declined to sign the release but I did give them my email address.
I have escalated with BBC and complained to Ofcom (you only have 20 days from the broadcast in which to do so).
Very irritated by the BBC response.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Just had a chat with the legal person from the production company. They've apologised and are sending me a link to the programme so I can actually see it (it had gone from iPlayer within a week - dunno if that was related to my complaint). The Producer/Director has come up with a different version of events (no release form, for instance) but since I've been able to say that the release form I was offered was for a DIY show and the legal person has noted they were filming a DIY show around the same time, she tends to think my version of events is accurate. I even have my a Garmin trace which shows exactly where and when I stopped and where I moved from talking to the contractors to talking to the TV guy about consent. She even said that there was a discussion in October about whether they should try to track me down to get consent (they'd obviously lost the email address I wrote for them on the release form) and had considered going via the contractors to see if I'd been in touch (I had - lots of times) but didn't bother. They'll be in touch again after I've seen the film.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Just watched it. Holey Moley I DO look like Daddy Pig

Too funny. Fortunately I don't take myself too seriously (let's face it, I can hardly afford to...). It makes me even happier with my results on L2E and L2C only 8 weeks after this film. Just negotiating with the TV company for them to make charitable donations by way of apology, compensation and consent to use the film in future broadcasts. Seems like it would be a good outcomeROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0
