Starting back on the turbo trainer after being ill

When should I start back? Heavy cold that developed into a nasty cough. Cough is drying up but not gone yet. I'd say I feel about 75%. Could I do some low intensity work or should I just wait until I feel 100%?

100% you can just end up dragging out the illness for longer by tiring yourself out

I read somewhere and when that you should wait till you are 100% and then an extra day to make sure. It is annoying when unwell as you just want to get on with teh training but if you aren't healthy you won't benefit from the session any way so you may as well wait.

The problem that you may have with this cough virus is that it will probably go on or many weeks. So starting to train the day after it's gone is a bit difficult. It will get progressively less in time and some exercise may even help to get it cleared.
I had the virus and carried on riding because I have an asthma cough anyway.

If you want to be a strong rider you have to do strong things.
However if you train like a cart horse you'll race like one.

I have asthma as well so I tread pretty carefully. If I'm easing my way back in I might do a nice relaxed zone 2 for 30 just to spin the legs, breath a bit, and remove the 'guilt' of not riding.

Once your resting heart rate is back to within 2 or 3 bpm of normal then it will probably be OK to ease back into things, even if you have a lingering cough.

Rest it. I had a chest and sinus infection and I was still riding into work during December last year.

It eventually took 6 weeks to clear and I was off the bike for that duration. Fitness levels went, waistline got bigger (due to xmas of course)

Your body will tell you when you are recovered. Get well soon :)

I had flu all weekend, was in bed all day yesterday. Feel ok today but will give it at least until thursday before i even think of getting back on my spinning bike. And for my first couple of rides i will just turn my legs over, no hard effort.
