Hip Operation

Hi,
I have had 1/3 of my labrum removed and I have bone on bone in the left hip (stage 4 osteo arthritis) they also shaved some bone off my ball and socket due to having Femoroacetabular Impingement. This was over 6mths ago and things are not going well at all so the next stage may be further surgery.
Has any one had a hip resurfacing or replacement, and come back to racing. If so what did you have done ie ceramic/metal etc. Could you choose what type of hip you could have, were the hospital aware you were into cycling? What was the lay off time, any recommendations on reading material etc cheers ftt

Hi
I had a hip resurfacing two years ago, this was due to 20 years of karate taking its toll. At the time I wasn't in to cycling but decided that I wanted to do something that was a little more low impact after the operation . So got roped into the London to Southend which I did on a mountain bike. I soon got a road bike and last year did the London to Paris , this year I am doing the etape du tour.
I've never had a problem with my hip. It's been fine with cycling, I have sporadically done karate since as well.
Usually you are good to resume activity 3 months after the resurfacing op.
Good luck if you have the op, it's not prevented me doing anything0
