So the Dynamo is rapidly approaching, who is doing it this year? I have a coach ticket but my partner in crime may be AWOL this year.

Yip doing it again this year. It will either be five of us or could be nine if four teenagers make their mind up! I've got the transport arranged for five of us but will be a further headache sorting out transport for another four.

I'm there. Mrs EKE as my transport for the journey home.
No training done so far and no real plans to do any. I just hope bike fit and base fitness is enough to get me through.

    How hard can it be?

I'm in. Booked the coach as per last year, based on the theory that I will at least know what to expect this year. To be true, IF the weather is half-decent at Dunwich when we all arrive then the experience will be much more pleasant and chilled. Last year was cold and windy; bbbrrrrrrr!

I'm doing it with a (probably in the end very small) group from work.

Don't fancy the coach so will get the train back from Ipswich.

Thinking about using the fixed, but doubt I will in the end.

TBH - if you don't fancy the coach, you're far better off leaving a car up there than cycling over and getting a train...

That would be nice. However, unlike taking the fox, chicken and corn across the river I can't work out how to get the car there, at least without spending the best part of a day and having to cycle to Ipswich anyway once I've left it ....

Unless, of course, I can persuade the wife and kids of the joys of an early morning drive to Dunwich ....

This is still tempting me, will probably decide the day before, see what the weather is like and either:

Road bike there and back, door to door 280 miles OR
Fix it there in good time to be on the first train back

Might be doing this with my little bro this year...with dad coming to pick us up in the car :)

What time do people actually leave london fields normally? And I'm assuming as long as I get in the vague area I'll see where the unoffical start line is and just follow everyone? ;)
  • Hello! I don't suppose anyone has a spare ticket for the return coach? Or know of anyone who does? Blatantly didn't get my act together on this one.
Let me know if you do

Suggest you join the following facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/DunwichDynamo/ one of the members Louis Quinton has 48 spaces left on one of his coaches as of 13.00 today .

I used Louis' coach last year - it seemed far superior to the 'official' service as we were pulling out of the carpark while the big vans were still loading, and the unload was a rapid, pain free affair. I'd happily recommend it.

This year, our group are planning to stay at a friend's farm in the area for a snooze, before taking a late train back to London.

Anyone got any experience of train travel later in the day? Have most people returned by then, or is it still tight on space?

Money where your mouth is time. The weather doesn't look great, but not terrible either. A couple of mm of rain per hour for a few hours. Nothing a soft shell shouldn't be able to handle.
    So, whose doing it?

EKE, in a red soft shell and Team BG jersey, riding a black Kaffenback.

So, did any other forumites do it?
If not, I did it on a tiny unicycle, paced a few of the cycle clubs and played martial music on the booming system I had in my trailer. You should have seen me and tried to keep up with me.

I missed out this year as my usual chums cancelled on me. That and I am a fat, unfit knacker at present. Might consider it again next year.

Yip I did it. Fortunately, we were delayed by a pringled front wheel so didn't set off until 21.15 and the rain stayed ahead of us all the way. Lovely and warm on the beach at 7.30. It looked to me as though quite a lot of people were put off by the weather forecast and stayed away as it was definitely a lot quieter. My 16 year old son did it with me and was really chuffed to have made it all the way.
