Defending MSR champions. What's the mood in the camp about the new old route? I Imagine Ciolek would have preferred fewer sprinters in the final.

I'd imagine so too. Hard and selective suited him last year.

Ciolek finished in the Boonen, Stybar and Chavanel group at Omloop today, 3:43 down on Stannard.

Not as good as his result in it last year, but the company he kept is still promising.

He was hanging near the front until it all went mad, he was still in it when EBH was first in the break. So yeah, did OK, I guess. Tough race today!

Mera Kudus put in an impressive ride at the Tour de Langkawi today, coming second on the queen stage and moving to second on the GC.

Only 20 years old and riding his first pro race.

Merhawi Kudus beaten by Iranian ex(?) EPO doper Golakhour on stage 4 of the Tour de Langkwai (queen stage), 8 seconds down on GC but with no more climbing.

Go for some sprint bonuses Merhawi!

Just noticed Janse van Rensburg finished 6th on the stage and moved up to 6th on GC. Pretty good day for Qhubeka all told.

He looked strong too at that point.

  • Is this the same Janse Van Rensburg that was at Argos last year?

    Procycling diarist?

    Didn't know he'd moved

No win in the Namibian RR or TT Champs for MTN! Raul Costa Seibeb wins RR and Till Drobisch wins TT

Reinardt Janse van Rensburg - MTN > Argos
Jacques Janse van Rensburg - MTN

    No relation.
  • Wow, seems like an uncommon name.

Or is it like the English Singeon-Smythe, it seems exotic but actually not uncommon

Kudus sealed second in GC in the Langkwai, a race dominated by sprint stages (and Theo Bos) with little chance to alter the standings after the single mountain stage.
Rensburg and Meintjes also placed well (6th and 10th), landing MTN-Qhubeka the team prize.

2 Merhawi Kudus (Eri) MTN - Qhubeka 0:00:08
    6 Jacques J.V. Rensburg (RSA) MTN - Qhubeka 0:00:40
11 Louis Meintjes (RSA) MTN - Qhubeka 0:01:41

He rode at the Mallorca Challenge and Vuelta a Andalucia but finished fairly low down in both - he did manage 2nd in the mountains competition though.

I vaguely remember him doing quite well in the Tropicale Amissa Bongo too...

Creditable 9th place to Ciolek in MSR, worked hard all race to keep a good position with no real support.
Chapeau also to Kudus for finishing, his first WT race, 300km of rain.

Qhubeka are only taking 5 riders to the Dwaars , they've got 8 riders out injured or ill.

Pleased with the invite, but will they have enough riders by then?! Or was the lite approach to Dwaars because they knew this invite was coming?
