I saw a conslutant today who said he do an operation to take off the lump on my big toe joint which is very painful when walking and cycling. It'll take 8 weeks before I can go back to work. I was wondering if there's anyone out there whose had the operation who could tell me how successful it was and how long would it be before I could get to doing a 100k audax/ 100mile sportive.

If it's "... very painful when walking and cycling..." then an operation from which you won't heal for 8 weeks or so sounds like just the ticket to living a more comfortable life. 8 weeks is nothing in the grander scheme of things. Get it fixed, let it heal, a get back to riding when you're able. Putting it off won't help anything.
