Thought i would share my build for my 2014 Transition Covert 27.5. Its going to be my kind of "Do All Bike". Mainly for honing around the woods locally, blasting along with the dog and going over to Wales to various trail centres!

I didn't buy it to be the lightest do all bike as i'm no lightweight myself (Circa 16.5 Stone), so it is built to take a beating and be able to go down and up stuff!

Theme is to keep everything as black as possible in contrast to the Orange frame. So no bling parts! its an Overt Covert!

Spec is is shaping up as follows:

Frame: Transition Covert 27.5 (Safety Orange incase you hadn't noticed)
Forks: Rockshox Pike RCT3 160mm 650B
Headset: Hope Tapered - Black
Bars: Kore Mega 760mm 20mm Rise
Stem: Kore Repute 50mm
Grips:ODI Black
Seatpost: Rockshox Reverb non Stealth (2 reasons, firstly i don't want to wait for stock of the stealth, secondly using a stealth means there are unused cable guides on the top tube which i don't like! )
Saddle: Haven't decided yet
Brakes: Shimano XT M785 Front & Rear(Black finish)
Front Derailleur: XT Direct Mount
Rear Derailleur: XT M786 Shadow plus clutch mech (Medium cage)
Cassette: Shimano 10 Speed
Cranks: XT Double (Black)
Pedals Possibly just chuck on a set of nukeproof neutrons for the time being
Wheels: Stans Flow EX Rims with Hope Pro 2 Evos
Tyres: Possibly looking at Maxis Minions or Highrollers

Some pics pre build:

Hoping to have it built by next friday as i have an uplift booked!

  • You've got some work to do by Friday.

Nothing like a dealing to fuel motivation ha ha
  • In fairness the Shop is going to build it for me as I've just moved house and have now set up to tinker with my bike yet! and they have most of the parts in stock, just got to decide on tyres and a couple of bits!

Good to see it's own thread up

    Where's your uplift?
I'm hoping to take mine on anything from XC to Trails to enduro races to downhill
So I agree, a true all in one bike
  • Lol I thought it only fair.....

Going back to bike park Wales!

I'd live to try an enduro race but don't know where to start!

    Ummmmm, at the start?

Love the colour!!!! Am researching as much as possible on do it all bikes and this is up there, will this be your first time on one?
  • Cheers Alex, wondered where I was going wrong.....

My first covert, test rode few other bikes. Almost went for the Bronson C. But got such a good deal on the covert it seemed stupid not to. And there are loads of Bronson's out there!

If you're gonna be on only one bike, I'd recommend buying something as reliable as possible, for obvious reasons. My Giant Reign X has been superb, apart from when the link snapped in morzine...

No problem at all pal, glad to be of service

I had a quick blip on a Bronson the other day and loved it until the guy told me how much his cost to build then I was glad to get off it! I can see why there is so many as it felt so confident at everything, even with my limted riding skills but I cannot justify 6k on just 1 bike. Not until I've ditched the wife and kids and have moved to the Alps anyhow

Of all the places for it to go wrong as well

Jumped on a medium size Reign X and it felt massive on me!!!! Solid but big. To be honest I'm just starting looking now ready for the end of this year, gives me 9 months to demo as many bikes as possible
  • Well, the frame and bits are dropped into the shop for assembly!

Decided on the Maxxis Minion DHF tyres.

Orange with black rocks. The new Kona Process looks great too, for example.
  • Yup trying to keep everything as black as possible apart from the frame.

The process was launched after i bought my covert and seems to be getting good reviews. However i don't think i could have bought one....not really been a fan of Kona.

That would be the route I'd go - lairy frame set off nicely with lots of black components. Simple but effective beats explosion in a paint factory every time.
  • Trying to find out if i can get the Bearing caps changed to black and change the stickers on the rims

if anyone knows the answer to either that would be great!

Get 'em anodised. Colour change re-anodising can give unpredictable results, but changing from colour to black is usually fine. These callipers used to be gold:

Get a life. He was asking how he could change teh colour of his ally pivots. It's irrelevant whether the anodised items shown were brake callipers or light fittings, the principle's the same.

Well that goes without saying - anyone with any reasonable appreciation of aesthetics will share that aversion, lol.
  • Good looking crotch rocket.

Thanks for the link, Does anyone know if they supply the bearing caps in Black?

Cheers, and no worries. The link is the anodiser that I used (and will be using again) - wide range of colours, great results, good prices and (crucially) they have no minimum quantities (most places have a minimum charge and often won't do one off items).
  • No minimum order is good to know
