Popped down to the park Monday evening intending to make the most of the good weather.

Nice conditions and a bit less messing about with lap timing, water bottle and lights saw me do a couple of laps a shade faster than I'd done before, so I stole myself for a third and an improved time.

Guess I'll need to cycle a bit before I can take off more than a few seconds.

Will give this a proper go later in the summer I think, I did two 53 min efforts as part of 4 lap rides last week, hoping I can beat my legacy best time of 49.15 or something by a fair chunk.

First go at this in 2014, not too bad. No obstructions of note, southerly wind wasn't a major factor (though nice on the run up to Roehampton), weather pleasant. All in all a nice way to spend a Sunday evening.

out in nice conditions last night and did a moderate to reasonably fast 3 lapper without any real aero stuff on, except the evade. did it deliberately solo without any drafting (and deliberatley slowed at least twice to avoid drafting). one thing i am noticing is whilst my speed on the flat is improving, i am getting worse on the climbs. too fat...

First time I've done this in a while, have to say it wasn't full gas but hard enough. Nice tailwind up Sawyers but a head and side wind coming off the top of Dark hill as a result. Legs weren't fully recovered from the weekends Hackney Half marathon. Consistent(ish) laps with equally consistent hold ups.

Clear run this morning & quite pleased with this. Conditions were not ideal, headwind up Sawyers (albeit a light one) and cold air - started the first lap at 06:45. Need to have an evening attempt with less wind/Sawyers tailwind. Might be worth a minute or so? I backed off a little on lap 2, needlessly as it turns out. Imagine that this is when having a PowerMeter would help to gauge effort? Still, knocked a minute off my PB:

Popped out for another ride and possible attempt yesterday (Tues) evening. Weather was good and there were quite a few, mostly faster, cyclists about.

Tyres pumped up, chain wiped and oiled, and about as much effort as I could muster gave me a better time. I'm going to need ideal conditions and a good deal more fitness for anything much faster.

I finally made it back to try the 3 lap challenge after I got knocked off my bike on the way to the park to try it back in May. I targeted 53mins but after a fast first lap I eased up a bit (I didn't want to run out of gas) and targeted something lower. Was really, really chuffed to get sub 51mins. Conditions were ok with a bit of wind and damp roads but I only lost probably less than 10 seconds to traffic and other cyclists so in the round conditions don't get much better. Next aim: sub 50mins :shock:

Hi - I'm considering adding Richmond Park in to vary my routine (commute to/from Croydon/Oxford St most days, Regents Park laps about twice a week, longer (100k or so) rides out through Surrey & Kent at weekends.)

A couple of things - I can't seem to find a decent cycling route from Morden to Richmond Park (everything looks like it includes the poxy A3) - does anyone have any ideas about that? Maybe through South Wimbledon or something?

Also, what's the situation with the speed limit in the park? I read about the rozzers pulling people over and fining them - specifically a kid hitting about 50k/h on a descent, but also heard idle rumours about others - don't much fancy being fined for training!

Finally, is doing laps in mid-morning the way to go? Seems to be that it's a decent time for cycling in most places due to lower traffic volumes, and I think I'd struggle to get up there early enough to be pre-rush-hour

You should be able to find a route that crosses over the A3 on one of the many bridges. If you come from Wimbledon you can take the road from Wimbledon to Raynes Park (goes right past Raynes PArk train station), and that road basically continues over the A3 and down to Kingston Hospital.

As for the speed limit, you should be fine. Once in a blue moon they may pull someone over, but it is rare and bearing in mind the huge number of people cycling in the part you would be pretty damned unlucky to be the one pulled over.

Anything outside of rush hour is generally pretty good.

Had a night to myself on Weds last, as the wife and kid were away staying with the MiL. Decided to make the most of it by heading to RP for a tilt at this. Not done much riding recently, so I cheated by driving halfway round the south circ with the bike in the car - not very roadie-like behaviour but I didn't trust my fitness to be able to cycle over from Bromley, do the laps, and make it home without crying. Happy with the time considering I'm fat and unfit. Might have another go later in the year if I can shift some pud and do a bit of training in the meantime.

Thought I'd give this one last go whilst the last of the decent weather remained and also swapped my 531c trainer for the carbon Mekk. What a difference it made - I had been running around mid-57s for the past few occasions and I cut this by 1min per lap. There's about 25 years difference in the age and technology on the 2 bikes I use (both have quite good specs for their eras) and its amazing to see how the evolution in technology aids performance.

I seem to be the only one that goes round clockwise... anyway, yesterday was a PR by nearly 2 minutes so I thought I'd add my modest effort. Next year I think we should have age in the results too.

Intend to go round the park anti clockwise purely because it can make things a little easier on the roundabouts, but from time to time a clockwise trip shakes things up a bit.

Hardly any wind at all this afternoon, that's the only thing that can possibly account for being nearly a minute faster than last week. Still, nice to get under 1:10.

First time I've had strava on when I have done 3 laps. Very wet and slippery out there today, took it super-careful on the descents and corners. Also had the fun of dodging a stag who decided to wander out in front of me. Next step is to get under the hour mark.....

I'm 41, been back on a bike since late June.
